Round five – Essendon 15.10 (100) d Collingwood 11.16 (82)

87,685 fans flocked to the MCG for Essendon’s traditional Anzac Day clash with Collingwood and Joe Daniher stole the show.

The key forward ran rampant gathering 16 disposals, six inside 50s and kicking 3.4 to receive his first Anzac Medal for best on ground.

It was a breakthrough 18-point win for the Bombers as they scored their first Anzac Day win since 2013.

Zach Merrett (33 disposals) and Orazio Fantasia (four goals) were once again the best players, strengthening their early claims for All Australian selection.

Ben McNeice showed plenty of talent and composure in defence in his debut on the big stage.
