Round eight – Essendon 17.8 (110) d Geelong 13.15 (93)

A six-goal opening term from Essendon set the tone for another strong victory in the Country Game against Geelong.

Though conceding six goals in the last quarter, the damage had been done and Essendon proved too good to claim an impressive 17-point victory.

Joe Daniher once again claimed best on ground, this time receiving the Tom Wills Medal after booting five goals from 16 disposals.

Zach Merrett was brilliant in the contest with 33 disposals and 12 tackles, while David Zaharakis gathered 31 disposals and small forwards Orazio Fantasia and Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti were damaging with three goals apiece.
