Rd 22 – Gold Coast 9.3 (57) d by Essendon 12.18 (90)

Josh Begley started like a house on fire in his first AFL game as Essendon returned to the top eight with a hard-fought 23-point victory over Gold Coast.

Begley stepped up after the Bombers conceded the first two goals, kicking two goals from his first three kicks and setting up a James Stewart major with the other.

David Zaharakis was terrific with 38 disposals and a whopping 15 inside 50s, and Andrew McGrath had one of his best games with 25 disposals.

It could have been much worst for the Suns after the Bombers recorded 71 inside-50s to Gold Coast’s 31 and 30 scoring shots to 12, but Essendon was happy to settle for the important win.
