Essendon legend Michael Long says he is immensely proud of what Dreamtime at the G and the Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round has become.

Speaking just ahead of one of the biggest weeks on the Australian sporting calendar, Long said the occasion continues to go from strength to strength.

“It’s taken a long while to get it to this stage and I think all clubs have embraced it,” Long said.

“It’s grown enormously, it’s a great week to celebrate indigenous culture and community, so it’s something that will continue to grow and no doubt we would love to get another big crowd back at the MCG.”

Long has been a major supporter of Dreamtime of the G since its inception in 2005 through The Long Walk and said it is always a special occasion for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and players.

“It means a lot to a lot of the players and the players that play in the game, because you see that in all the jumpers that are displayed and designed and the sense of pride, and I think that’s part and parcel of what this game does.

“It’s about community and two great teams playing off on the night just caps it all off.”
