Essendon on-baller Devon Smith has collected another award for his remarkable first season in the red and black, taking home the Bomber Squad Award at the club’s Annual General Meeting on Monday.

The 2018 Crichton Medallist was on hand to receive the club cheer squad’s award at Marvel Stadium on Monday after his inaugural season saw him smash the club’s season tackling record, kick 17 goals and average 22 disposals per game.

Three Bombers were also presented Life Membership at the event, with recently-retired former captain Brendon Goddard joining experienced Dons Dyson Heppell and Michael Hurley to celebrate the occasion.

Four departing volunteers were also honoured for their outstanding commitment to the club over an astonishing combined 133 years.

John “Killer” Kilby, David “Friendy” Friend, Alan “Rev” Dunn and John Shaw – who have shared in some of the club’s most memorable successes – have played crucial roles in the creation of the club’s positive culture and had an enormous impact on all involved at Essendon.

The departure of the generous volunteers us the result of the football industry’s shift towards paid employment, but each will remain supported by the club in the future.
