Australia Day Goes GLoBALL

Essendon footballers will again join forces with some of the best Twenty20 cricketers in Victoria for the Australia Day Goes GLoBALL cricket match at Windy Hill on Thursday 26 January.

Bombers players will test their batting and bowling skills alongside cricketers from both the Melbourne Stars and the Melbourne Renegades Big Bash League teams in a ten-over-a-side match.

This is the perfect way to celebrate the Australia Day public holiday with sporting fans having the chance to see their favourite footballers and cricketers battle it out in celebration of the GLoBALL program.

GLoBALL is a program coordinated by the Essendon Football Club and Cricket Victoria which allows international students and new migrants the chance to interact with the Victorian community all year round by undertaking cricket and Australian Rules football related activities.

The main aim of the GLoBALL initiative is to promote social inclusion, a sense of belonging and celebrate diversity.

There will be a number of modified rules for the game including:

- Each player must bowl one over
- Batsman bat in pairs and face two overs
- Teams lose three runs every time they lose a wicket and the batsmen must then swap ends
- Essendon players can’t go out first ball or LBW
- The Stars and Renegades cricketers must run every time they hit the ball
- Essendon players can dismiss the Renegades or Stars batsman if they catch the ball one hand after one bounce.

Further details will be provided over the next few days.

When: Thursday 26 January, 2012.

Angus has a reasonable leg spinners grip. Would be interesting to see what revs he gets, or length control and drift. I suspect from his AFL techniques he can disguise the one out the back of the hand.

it was a great game to watch last year except for my fav player Angus being a very bad player...it was funny to watch him keep going out! Was great that all the players came and signed stuff...was a really fun day and would recommend it for all :-)

Went last year. Yes it is a bit of hit and giggle but it was very enjoyable.

good call, Daniel Murphy, oh so true....

Daniel, baseball is cricket with one shot and quarter of the field. The natural comparison would be that soccer is AFL, but without getting your hands dirty, lots of head banging and an offside rule designed to slow up the pace of the game.
