Bombers encourage ditching the drink

The Bombers are baulking the booze this February by taking part in febfast, an initiative that challenges people to give up alcohol for the shortest month of the year.

Coach James Hird will lead nine Essendon players in the program which is aimed at raising funds to help young Australians take control of their lives by overcoming alcohol and drug problems.

You can support the cause by sponsoring the players in team Hird by clicking here.

Team Hird is made up of Jason Winderlich, Angus Monfries, Heath Hocking, Leroy Jetta, Brendan Lee, Ben Howlett, Michael Hibberd, Hal Hunter and Cory Dell’OIio.

Now the silly season has passed, press the pause button and start the year with a clear head by taking part in febfast.

It is easy to get involved in as you step away from the bottle for February and get friends, family and workmates to sponsor you at http://www.febfast.org.au/.

If you have a special occasion during the month there is the option to plan ahead and buy a ‘Time Out’ certificate for $25.

t idea, but alas, too late for me this February. Good luck guys, though I would expect you guys are pretty disciplined on the grog anyway.

We've seen a range of wonderful and positive initiatives from the footy club in recent months, and this one is a ripper! Far too many neurons are routinely sacrificed in the name of having a "good time", a fact that seems to escape many people.

Good on you Essendon for promoting taking time off from alchohol, but drinking responsibly should always be the motto regardless of what month it is.Know your limits and don't be an idiot.

Another fantastic idea from the greatest club of all. It's high time we concentrated on life without grog as a natural part of it. As a biker, I want and need a clear head, and as a Dons fan, I am rapt to support this. Far too many lives are ruined through excess grog. Well done blokes!

I really hope this is another big step forward for Michael Hibberd - best of luck in returning to the starting team

A great concept and lets hope that other AFL Clubs are encouraged to do the same - drugs/alcohol are becoming the bane of our young society so anything that shows you can have a good time without these is a plus - well done Essendon and Happy Birthday James!

Graeme, well said! Well done to all the men participating in this worthy cause. Angie

Of course it's all "cosmetic" for our guys, bit hard to give up something you are not doing, in actual fact the whole team list is in the group, maybe they should add some of the admin people, I hear Collingwood players declined the offer as it would have ruined their Thursday nite "pie & beer" nights

Who's that bushranger on the far right? Hope he keeps the manly beard. Now all we need is a bloke with a Ken Fletcher moustache. Good to see a dash of Essendon mongrel.
