Bombers take cautious approach with Hurley

Essendon key forward Michael Hurley has been put on a modified training program as a precaution after experiencing tightness in his hamstring last week.

High performance manager Dean Robinson said the club is monitoring Hurley closely in order to have him in his best possible condition for the 2012 season.

"He pulled up a bit sore during a testing drill when he returned to pre-season training after the Christmas break," Robinson said.

"He was feeling fine and everything was going along nicely until he felt tightness in his hamstring so we pulled him out of training and had a look at him because we don’t want to take any risks."

Robinson said he expects Hurley to be back in full training at the start of February and fully fit for the start of the home and away season.

"We've given him the time off and putting him through all the proper rehab,” Robinson said.

“We are probably being a little bit more cautious than we need to but for someone so valuable we are going to take the time and make sure we get him right."

Last paragraph says the most. Be cautious and get him right as he is valuable. Possibly our next marquee player, if he's not that already (with respect to Watson, Fletcher and Zaharakis).

HAMSTRINGS!!!! The running then kicking aspect of our game really tests the range of the hamstrings.(hope I'm not being arrogant here).. A technique called Active Tissue Release is extremely effective, especially with hammies. I will pray to the injury Gods to give us a good injury-free year.

The impressive upper bodies we have noticed on Hurs and others must be balance with improved lower frame (core and legs) to carry them. For example, as much as you might WANT to put fuelie heads on a ’69 Chevy with a 396, actually you can’t, Hurs(t) notwithstanding. Drop it down to a 327 - now ya talkin’. ‘The Weapon’ and others will have him up on the blocks and still be tickering, but when they get Hurs right: out of his way, Mister, you best keep!

Not something we would like to hear really but its good that the club are taking the necessary precautions and being over cautious with our gun.

We sure don't want more frustration with good players having hamstring problems , so no doubt the people concerned will be as sensible as possible with Mick's hammy.

Can someone please tell me, how come the Bombers seem to have heaps of Hammy problems?? Is it our training regime? or lack of warming up? before stretching? etc. This is a serious issue which must be addressed, & solved. Think tank needed?
