Ahead of the official commencement of Essendon’s pre-season campaign, coach James Hird addressed members of the Bombers’ playing group last week, warning them of the gruelling pre-season in store.
After players had suggested that the 2011 pre-season was the hardest of their careers, Hird reminded the group that commitment remained on improvement and development across the board.
“Look out boys, because pre-season 2012 is going to be one to write home about for the rest of your lives,” Hird said.
A number of key Essendon stars have returned ahead-of-schedule to the Club, starting their training regimes early in the lead up to the commencement of pre-season.
Just as the Essendon players are working hard, Metabo Power Tools are as equally professional and powerful.
The new Metabo catalogue is out now, with a full range of power tools and accessories. Click here to visit the catalogue for exclusive bonuses and redemptions for Bombers supporters.

Hirdy and co exactly what is required. Players must get physically and mentally stronger to compete at the highest level. Far too many times we faded when real pressure was applied.
OK you've inspired me to start evening hourly walks on Chapman Ridge. And an idea to beat community poker machine addiction and reduce obesity--make the lever go above their heads and down to the floor for each jackpot- while they walk on a tread machine. No walk, no play.
The players should realize that the gruelling pre-season is necessary, if they want to go the next step forward. It should also improve their "mindset".....
Next season will be a difficult season and it is up to all the players to perform at their peak, otherwise.....
Don't spend it all on the track Bombers. A lot of time on the weights would be useful too.
1/ With the Arizona bubble "well and truly" burst GF day,and those glorious wobbles returning c/w bragging rights in mothballs(at least for another 12 mths)it will be nice to get back to appreciating good hard yakka performed in Aus once again, without all the chest puffing about how superior the woods are,and how the flag will be a cakewalk blah blah...
2/ Now we can hope for more steady improvement in many ways, and start on an even keel, like everyone else :-) :-) With what Hirdy & Co are focusing on,we will scare even more sides in 2012 & 2013,while challenging ourselves to reach "that pinnacle" of consistent fitness, form, strength and performance with building "that settled side needed" to conquer allcomers, and win that race to the 17th flag.. One to three years settling in at Tulla (try the run around the Operations Road to the Control Tower and back, watching out for flyin' golf balls as well),will beat anything that Arizona was providing imo, with what we will be hopefully achieving.. Go You Mighty Dons !! :-) :-)
We hear the same story every year from every club how it will be the hardest pre season & players are breaking PB's every week, good posts (as usual) Noel, right on Rob, bigger, faster bodies.. don't ya hate the off season
The lounge lizzards like me can't wait for the new season, the grand final was only a couple of weeks behind us, when we were reminded just how long we have to wait, fox has nothing but rubbish, round ball, base ball, grid iron, what a load of old cobblers, even the cricket is on the nose, jeez any thing, i am watching dvd's of some of our better games, but it ain't the same as "live" come on Bombers.
I feel inspired as well! Think I'll put in a pre-season of my own, although no doubt it will not scratch the surface of the torture that I'm sure is in store for the Bomber boys! :) Angie
I remember in 2000 we were the fittest and most physically imposing side out there (also 1985). Teams lost their mental edge just looking at us. Our mindset was full of self belief because we knew we were better, fitter, stronger. This pre-season should be taking us there again. It's gonna get tough, but that's the way we want it.
impressed to hear of the commitment from our players. Mark McVeigh you are such a hard working leader of our lads.If I may add. Please ensure all our players understand correct & effective stretching(muscle lengthening)so critical to contractive strength and injury reduction. with respect, Gail
Best running expression ever award goes to Jake Melksham.... hahaha
This story may well just be what we need to scare off fat Fev!
We need lots & lots of Gym work. Keep the bal wayfrom them as much as possible (creating ball hunger). When we were young, we were very poor, so there was only one ball for thirty or forty kids, so if you wanted a kick, you had to fight for it.
The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack in will.(Vince Lombardi)
I'd rather hear less 'talk' and see more 'walk'. If I want more spin I'll hire a Warney DVD. IMHO, of course.
