Essendon's new facility receives official approval

Essendon Football Club is delighted to have received official approval from the Federal Government for its new $26 million athlete facility at Melbourne Airport today.

The proposed facility will be situated on a 10-hectare site and comprise two ovals, a training and administration building and car parking.

The indoor facilities include ovals, a basketball court, pool and gymnasium and will be used by Essendon Football Club, paralympians and other local athletic groups.

The plan will not have any significant impact on aviation operations at the airport and is not expected to increase traffic in the area.

No concerns were raised in submissions or by the public during the consultation period.

The Australian Government has committed $6 million to the project under the Infrastructure Employment Projects Scheme

I'm glad the figure is at 26 million now rather than the $30 million, as we are looking at about a 4 million shortfall on supporter contributions. Hope this changes.
