Essendon announce Board changes

Essendon Football Club is delighted to welcome Paul Brasher and Chris Heffernan to the club’s Board.

Paul Brasher joins the Board as Finance Director filling the casual vacancy following the retirement of long standing finance director Tim Jonas.

Essendon chairman David Evans said Brasher will be a welcome addition to the Board.

“He brings great spirit, a love for the club and a shared vision for creating long term success,” Evans said.

Brasher was a Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers from 1982-2009 and Global Chairman from 2001-2009. He is currently a Director of Perpetual Limited, a Director of Incitec Pivot Limited and is a member of the Audit, Risk & Compliance Committee and the Performance & Remuneration Committee for both companies.

“His experience as Global Chairman of one of the world’s largest accounting firms and as a Non Executive Director covering a combination of public companies, private interests and not for profit organisations will be invaluable to the club and its Board.”

Evans paid tribute to Jonas for his outstanding service to the club and said he leaves behind a legacy of professionalism and integrity.

“Tim has been an outstanding finance director for the last 15 years,” Evans said.

“Tim has overseen a period of financial stability and financial governance that will leave a lasting legacy.”

“On behalf of the Essendon Football Club, I would like to thank Tim for his tireless work and wish him all the best for the future.”

Essendon premiership player Chris Heffernan will fill the vacancy left by retiring director and former Chairman Ray Horsburgh.

Evans said Heffernan provided a great range of skills set for the Board.

“Heffernan’s football knowledge and business acumen make him an outstanding addition to the club’s Board,” Evans said.

“He is well respected as a former player and highly rated as an emerging business leader. A great combination for the club’s Board.”

Heffernan played 170 AFL games for the Bombers and is a member of the 2000 premiership team.

Since his retirement in 2007, he worked at Deutsche Bank in New York for three years in the asset and funds management business reporting to the Global COO.

He returned to Melbourne in 2010 and joined Ernst and Young as a member of the mergers and acquisitions team that assists large private and ASX listed companies achieve their strategic objectives.

Evans thanked Horsburgh for his great service to the club and said he leaves a lasting legacy of good governance.

“Ray has been a tireless worker for the stability, profitability and on field success of the Essendon Football Club,” Evans said.

“He has left a lasting legacy of quality Board Governance and succession planning as well as fostering a period of development of the club across all levels both on field and off the field.”

“On behalf of the Essendon Football Club, I would like to thank Ray for his tireless work and wish him all the best for the future.”

Horsburgh has been asked to remain involved with the club as Club Patron as well as chairing The Bill Hutchison Foundation and The Hall of Fame Selection Committee.

Great to have you back. Good to have some Western District representation back at the club since Scotty left. Hope you can use those Wall Street skills to make us bucketloads of moolah for the Flight Plan.

A big thanks to Ray Horsburgh and Tim Jonas for their tireless work on the EFC Board. The appointment of Paul Brasher as the club's new Finance Director (a vital position at a club known for its financial responsibility)is most welcome. Great to see Heff back at the club and in the longterm a definite future President. Welcome boys !

Welcome to Paul and Chris, two heavy hitters, and thanks to Ray and Tim for their contribution to the Bombers. Is "Finance Director" the same as what we used to call "treasurer" ?. I remember an old treasurer from way back, his name was Noel Allanson and he was a great bloke and also a very good player for the Dons,he was also a very good golfer and was treasurer of the Northern Golf Club. (It's a slow news day so I'm just reminiscing, dont mind me)

So the player's trained for the new season today. Any update on the condition, heard that Winders had a go, or is it because we're still tryna work out our disappointment from the weekend? just move on, now to focus on getting Matthew Little.

Some possible players for Didoro. Paddy Rose form Port Melbourne, Callan Willson from West Coast, Michael Coad form GC, Marc Lock from GC, Macaffa from Collingwood, Matthew Firman from Geelong Reserves, O'hialpin from Carlton and finally Daily Cherry Evans from Manly (a brilliant kick at goals)

"Evans said Heffernan provided a great range of skills set for the Board." Just hope his off field skills are better than his on field skills.

It is a sign of a healthy club that past players want to come back and invest their talents in a club when their own playing days are over. Welcome Chris and Paul. Another part of 2000 has returned.
