Essendon Football Club today confirmed the delisting of rookie Michael Quinn as the club continues its preparations for the 2012 season.
Essendon general manager football operations Paul Hamilton said it was a tough decision to delist the Irish recruit.
"It was a tough decision to make but he is still very young. Michael has been a great personality around the club so it is sad to see him leave," Hamilton said.
"He played eight senior games, won a VFL best and fairest and for a guy that had never really played the game before he arrived at Windy Hill, he has really come a long way."
The Club would like to thank Michael for his contribution and wish him all the best for the future.
Essendon will communicate any further changes to its playing list as they arise.

Ei, I've never understood why players are delisted after trade week? Shouldn't we give these players some opportunity to find new homes via a trade so that we also may benefit? Good luck to Michael anyway!
Sad to see Michael go. He played well in the match up here in Cairns last year. Good luck. I sense we are loading up on rookie picks to accommodate some stronger bodies from Bendigo maybe, or other VFL or interstate clubs. May unearth a diamond in the rough.
Interesting that whilst many fans are concerned that we didn't get Caddy or another midfielder in trade week, Mark Thompson wasn't concerned if the deal worked or not. Why? Probably because that mid might be Browne, Ross, Zaharakis or someone else ready to have a breakout year like Hocking a couple of years ago. It happens. Who could have predicted Zaharakis for the Crichton back in February? Trust!
Thanks for your effort Quinny. I watched some of your games at Bendigo and if we could bottle your heart anf ferocity into all our players, we would be almost there. I fully expect some clueless supporters to be cheering, but ignore those cats, they wouldn't have a clue.
Why are recruiting guys like Quinn all the way from Ireland, taken away from his family just to be sacked 3 years later? Kinelly took a while to develope, another one who will play like Stynes. Go Reserves.
Yes,also back Andrew & Wes with their sentiments on Michael Quinn... The Mighty Quinn.. All the very best young man,you have created much appreciation and admiration amongst our Bomber ranks, you gave it your best and leave with our best wishes!! :-)
Sorry to hear that you got delisted Michael, but I think you are a good chance to get picked up by another club, because to have played 8 AFL games and won a Best and Fairest in the VFL, you must be able to really play. You have good pace and tenacity, and being still only 21, you have time on your side to improve your skills. I hope the luck of the Irish is with you in the future.
As always, Gordon Moss snr says it all. Good luck Michael, whatever you decide to do in the future.
Steward mccallum. I fail to see your logic. Why would the club delist before trade week. That would destroy these players chances of getting traded because no club would trade for them if they knew they could pick them up for nothing in the draft/ pre-season draft. We would have shopped them around during trade week, but if they can't crack our best 25-30 players then why would another club trade for them.
NNNOOOOOOOOooooooooo!!!! What are you doing Essendon. You should have given this guy a proper shot at AFL level and not just chuck him in for one game and expect him to be brilliant. You will be sadly missed Michael. All the best mate.
Thanks for your contribution Michael. Certainly what you may have lacked in skills you more than made up for with your attack on the ball and opponent, some of our more celebrated players could look at the way you play. Cheers and best wishes.
Good on our club for giving you a chance to get listed for senior regular games. Sure many clubs will be interested.
Thanks, Quinny! It takes a mountain of guts to travel to the other side of the planet and try your luck at something new, especially a sport. Although you didn't earn a regular senior spot you earned a helluva lot of respect. All the best in where life finds you! Is fhearr fheuchainn na bhith san duil.
Unfortunately he just couldn't take the step up from VFL to AFL, his game against Crows showed how far he was away from making the grade, by all reports he was a great personality & clubman & I wish him well for the future & hope he gets picked up by another club, thanx Michael
Michael - all the best. I agree with some of the other comments saying that Michael never got a fair go. He showed promise in the games he played. There are a number of players that are still very fortunate to be on the playing list..... These players will have to perform in 2012 or they will be sent packing.....
Sad to see Michael Quinn could not get more time on the list. He certainly had exuberance and dedication to task. Hope he gets another chance elsewhere as I feel he still has plenty of potential to develop further. Good luck Michael.
Interesting how we have delisted or in Josh Jenkins traded, all of our rookies. Maybe there is some hidden talent essendon hope to find in the rookie draft this year. Hopefully plenty of midfielders will be selected. Best of luck to all players that were delisted or have retired this year.
I guess we all regret the 'meat market' that the game has become, but the players go in with their eyes open and know what might happen
I really wanted Michael to have a successful career with us. I reckon it was a very hard call but probably had to be made given that he didn't back up last year's efforts with an even better year this year. I hope he gets a chance somewhere or, if not, that he stays with Bendigo. Thanks Michael.
Al catraz, afl rules state that international rookies can only remain on a club's rookie list for maximum three years, the only way Quinn would have remained a bomber would have been to elevate him onto the senior list, which with only 3 picks in the draft, one for Crameri's elevation, didn't look likely. Good luck Quinny in the future.
I agree Wes, although i would have liked to get caddy, i am backing Browne to become that breakout player and a hard in and under player to support Hocking. If zaharakis, Winders, jobe and co can do the rest and improve on this years efforts we should go OK.
It would great to see young Browne become fitter and stronger, he has the shape to be a A grade midfielder. He should play more games this year. I still think we are building a list with good depth - If we look at last year we were 5wins - 2loss before Watson, Hurley injuries and then hocking suspension against BL - Hirdy is still getting to know the list and how to get the best out of them - Pretty sure he will.
Best of luck for your future Michael, thank you for your time with our club.
essendon have big plans and we all just have to wait and see what they have in store for 2012
good luck Quinny, Essendonians change is coming. Browne, Steinberg, Rossy are ready to rock, and honest choices dictate the road we choose
Onya Quinny, thanks a bunch and I'm sure you've enjoyed every minute at Bomber land as much as we have enjoyed watching you develop. I reckon we'll be seeing you play for for Ireland against us for many years to come. Good luck Champ.
.....and good luck to all the other delisted rookies. Jay, what a bugger.
I'm thinking that Michael is unlucky and there might have been some upside to his game, looking ahead. Tremendous pace and a great tackler, just couldn't dispose of the pill as well as others who were born to the game.
Why not a word about Neagle Seems he should have been given the flick last year Wonder who else will get the chop?
sorry to bring the mood down everyone, but this is a good move and needed to be happen. Browne & Ross will be very good mids! There seems to be a harder line developing under Hird and co. I dont think players will get the amount of time like they did in the past, this is a league wide situation though. Luck of the Irish to you Michael!.
Thanks for your enthusiasm and endeavour at the Dons Quinny. We continue to respect and admire your tenacity and hard work. You will do well with whatever you do, with such a strong work ethic.
Jay should have stayed, he would have slotted in the ff chf easily. His big body leading and toughness was needed, people say he had his chance against Geelong when he played on and got caught; every one makes mistakes thats how we learn. (By the way, have a look at Jobe on Youtube being chased down by Dane Swan...all the time in the world but gets caught). If half the energy put on certain players at our club was put on Jay he'd do us proud.
Square peg in a round hole, was put in a position (a league football match) that he should never have been in. I wish him well in whatever his future holds.
Michael, it's so sad to see you go. Your talent with a ball (Aussie rules or that funny round one!)was very impressive. The best of Irish luck to you as you move forward in your sporting career. We will miss you. Angie xxx
Thank you Michael, it was clear from every game that you played you put it all on the line. Pity, you and Tyson were often used when the side was already weakened (ie. Adel final). This was always going to make it tough. Best wishes.
I'm disappointed Quinny's gone. All the best in whatever you do!
