Essendon kick off NAB Cup against West Coast

The Bombers are set to kick off its 2012 pre-season campaign against West Coast at Patersons Stadium on February 19.

Essendon will take on the Eagles and Fremantle in Round 1 of the NAB Cup competition, under the shortened triangular format that was introduced last season.

The Bombers are set to take on Fremantle following the clash against West Coast beginning at 4.45pm (local time).

Development coach Rick Ladson said the pre-season competition was a chance for the players to implement the hard work over the gruelling summer campaign.

“I am quite excited for the games to start because the players have been training so hard and I can’t wait to let them get into it and show us what they have got,” Ladson said.

Following the Round 1 trip to Perth, the team will have a week off before preparing to take on St. Kilda in Wangaratta on Saturday March 3 at 7.00pm.

In Round 3, Essendon will play host to Sydney at Etihad Stadium on Friday 9 March from 6.10pm.

Got to say, I am hanging out not only for the footy to begin but for the boys to start the NAB Cup here in Perth. Obviously, our opportunities to see the boys over here are few and far between so to say I am excited is an understatement. 26 days to go !!!!!

Two years ago we had them there. Got of to a flyer, then they reeled us in. Nic Nat killed us. Not alot on the line so it is good to get more conditioning for interstate travel. I think we will go OK too.

A great opportunity for our WA supporters to see our boys even if it just the NAB cup. We Victorian supporters are very very lucky. Enjoy the game Scott.

Scott, you want to think yourself lucky mate, at least you do get to see our team occasionally??? We never get to see them at all in Tassie????

Can anybody tell me when tickets will be available for this one?

I have had a few posts rejected this year, after i questioned the club on the lack of availability, of our team for queensland fans, i believe we have been hard done by in this, how hard would it have been to do a tad of public relations, just for fans who bleed black and red, they put out the hand for us to help them out, but don't even know we exist, i have been an avid follower for all of my life, but feel a bit miffed over this treatment, we love the game,we love the club, we love the team, just can't quite get a grip on the treatment.

i'm hearing you max....

Hi Max, I agree, we are boundry riders, but it is difficult for the Club itself to swing a game to Brissy I would think. Let us enjoy 2012 with some new stuff going on I am sure.

Can't wait to go to Wangaratta to see the boys beat St. Kilda =)

I live in darwin and never get to see a game but am originally from melb so have seen plenty in the past but im still a proud member of this great club and expect nothing in return except that the boys give it their best every week,to many people complain on here sometimes

Graeme C the point i was trying to make, was not about fixtures,we have no control over them, but to allow the loyal fans to have a little interaction, with the team while they were on the gold coast, feel that sort of exercise would be faily easy to stage, and when Kevin Sheedy was around he made damn sure it happened, the members help make the club, and if the members are not satisfied they very often go elsewhere, i couldn't do that, i bleed black and red, but i love this club as much if not more than any other.

I also live in Brisbane and look forward to the draw each year to see if we have a chance to see the dons. Us interstate supporters must understand this is the Essendon Football Club based in Eseendon Vic - the AFL make the draws not the club - if you want to go to the games more often move to Melbourne!

Yikes, surely the toughest round 1 draw of the NAB Cup, but probably just the test that the team needs. A couple of wins in WA would be a great reward for all of the hard work that the boys have put in over the summer.

For those of us not in Perth, and without Foxtel, the NAB Cup is a non-event this year

Max R. I totally agree with the Gold Coast Training. What a great opp. missed, it lifts the supporters & the boys realise that they have serious support wherever.Lets keep the Bombers Blazing in 2012 mate.

2012 - an exciting year coming up for the Red n Black..... To all the supporters that rave on about this great club but haven't / don't want to donate to the Flight Plan for the future - absolutely pathetic!
- Victor Tallis (posted 25/01/2012 4:42:32 PM)
I haven't yet Victor. I also do not see it as pathetic. Is there a rush on this? I will attend to priorities first, being family, our memberships and business. When this is sorted, the flight plan is on the 'to do' list. Like your passion mate, but, your view / opinion of your fellow supporter I would judge as - mmmm, pathetic!
- Brad Scarr (posted 25/01/2012 9:13:45 PM)
Carn't wait till pre-season starts again i hope the bombers upset both of the Western Austrlian sides in perth.
