Essendon shares the Christmas spirit

With the festive season in full swing, Essendon Football Club has helped spread the cheer after donating $100,000 to 11 local sporting clubs earlier this week.

With the cash from the trading results of the Windy Hill Venue, the club is proud to again distribute the significant sum.

This donation will now bring the total amount of cash distributed to local sporting clubs to over $1.23million for the past seven years.

Essendon Football Club Manager of Corporate Services Kevin Dixon said the club’s donation would significantly benefit the sporting clubs in the local community.

“Once again, we are proud that the club is able to contribute a significant amount of money to sporting clubs in the local area,” Dixon said.

“Sport – at all levels – has the ability to unite and bring people together. It is important that as a large organisation, we foster grassroots sport, whatever the code.”

The 11 clubs to receive a part of the distribution were:

Athletics Essendon
Essendon Baseball Club
Essendon Bowls Club
Essendon Cricket Club
Essendon Croquet Club
Essendon Ladies Hockey Club
Essendon Hockey Club
Windy Hill Netball Club
Essendon Tennis Club
Essendon Waterpolo Club
Essendon Rowing Club

Is the bowls club mentioned in the donations the same bowls club that did not agree with the re development of windy hill?

Great effort EFC. I see the "friendly" Bowls club still receives a Xmas handout.

I wonder who will be the first member to complain about donating this money while the club is asking us to donate to the Flight Plan. Probably one of those who complained about the team going to the Gold Coast. Congratulations to EFC for maintaining its role as a great community club.

Ian Moore, as part of the gaming licence law our club is required to donate 8.33% of gaming revenue to appropriate community organisations. So, all we are doing is making sure we can retain our gaming licence.
