Essendon supports introduction of Wadeye Magic

Essendon Football Club is proud to continue to foster Indigenous grass roots football, recently demonstrated by the introduction of the Wadeye Magic Football Club in the Northern Territory Football League.

In a similar trial basis to the Tiwi Bombers, the Wadeye Magic Football Club exists to unite the community in the Thamarrurr region, located 420km south-west of Darwin.

Essendon are behind the newly formed Wadeye Magic in the side’s quest to gain entry into the Northern Territory Football League for a full season next year.

This year, the Magic’s season commenced as a 10 game trial round, which started in fine fashion with a 78-point belting over the Palmerston Magpies.

Fast ball movement, accurate foot passing and hardness at the ball was the difference between the two sides. Wadeye Magic showed enough in their first outing to suggest that the side is going to be a force to be reckoned with in the NTFL Division One.

Essendon’s community manager Nick Hannett said the club was proud to foster the growth of the Wadeye Magic.

“In the same trial basis that was undertaken with the Tiwi Bombers, we look forward to the Wadeye Magic developing, both on and off the field, with Essendon’s support,” Hannett said.

This weekend, Bomber fans have the chance to see the Wadeye Magic in action from the comfort of their own homes, with the AFLNT live streaming the game online.

AFLNT will cover the Wadeye Magic v Banks Bulldogs Division 1 game live on the new streaming channel on YouTube. Don’t miss all the action on Saturday from 3.30pm onwards.

I hope our Tulla base will attract a training night(s) for them each year once it is up and running... would be lovely for the cry to go out " a few of us want to be given a chance for the Bombers rookie list, all we gotta do is give it our best always,to get noticed.." Great for the EFC to have some involvement with the Wadeye Magic FC.. Good Luck ALL !! :-)

Great to see EFC recognising the incredible indigenous talent in this country. I've worked in the NT for the past 2 years mentoring young footballers and doing boxing training with them in their men's centres, and I've seen some amazing athletes. Hope we get some great players from these clubs in the future. More indigenous magic at Bomberland!!!!
