Essendon Football Club can confirm it has accepted the resignation of Shannon Grant this morning after he was appointed as an assistant coach at the Western Bulldogs Football Club.
Grant was the coach of Essendon’s VFL affiliate side, the Bendigo Bombers, for the past two years, steering the team to finals in both seasons.
General manager of football operations Paul Hamilton congratulated Grant on his appointment.
“Everyone at the club is very pleased for Shannon to be offered this fantastic opportunity,” Hamilton said.
“Shannon has been terrific for us and has worked well with our younger players over the past two years and we wish him every success for the future.”

Who will coach Bendigo Football Club in 2012 and the n will that coach coach Essendon Reserves in 2013?

Fallout from the Macca move, I guess. Two gaping holes now in our coaching structure.
Thanks for all the hard work, Shannon. It would be hard to expect him to stay in a deadend position.
Al - It is a bit rich for us to be saying McCartney should get his own assistants. Grant was McCartney's second choice, he wanted Egan who we got. If we wanted Grant in the box he would be there, he's not. If we're still paying Matty Knights maybe he could coach Bendigo in 2012- just kidding.
Wow. This "coach go round" is making me really dizzy.
I thought Shannon did a great job and am sad to see him leave
no great loss but good luck to him regardless. frankly I don't think his behaviour was an optimal example to our young players. Marg.
hello EI does smokin' Joe Daniher come onto our list for 2012? or do we have to wait til 2013? Also please remind jimmy to check out young Alex A at surrey park. Marg.
I felt that Shannon Grant did a terrific job with Bendigo and coached them particuly well.Impressed with the way he addressed the players and got some unexpected wins.I think he will be coaching into the future with bigger roles. "good luck".
Thanks Shannon for all the good work you have done with our young players and their development. A well deserved promotion for you all be it at another club.
Sad to see you go, Shannon, but good for you. A well-deserved promotion. You have done wonderful things with the Bendigo boys and given great support to Essendon also. Thanks for all your hard work. Best wishes for the future. Angie :)
If our "fav" pic appears in all forums on the bullies website when Shanno is the subject, then I thing we can all assume that it is the preferred Grant "best side"...
Maybe all the others have a "soda water" in each frame... he he... :-) Thank you for all your efforts Shannon with all our Bendigo & Bomber Boys :-) :-)
Well done Shannon. Not good for us but good for you. Best of luck in the future.
