Gumbleton and Prismall placed on long-term injury list

Essendon has placed duo Scott Gumbleton and Brent Prismall on the club’s long-term injury list.

With the pair expected to miss round one, general manager football operations Paul Hamilton said the move was part of preparation for the opening round of the home and away season.

“There have been no setbacks on either account and we are really pleased with both their progress at the moment,” Hamilton said.

“They were not going to be available for round one so with the long term injury list you are put on for a minimum of eight weeks meaning they are will come off the list the first day after round one.

“If they are both progressing well and everything is going to plan we will put them back on the senior list.”

Hamilton said the move allows for the players on the rookie list to push for round one selection.

“The reason we are doing it is if one of our rookie players can come up as Stewart Crameri did in the NAB Cup last year we have the ability to play them in the senior AFL side,” he said.

“It is a good opportunity to see if one of the guys can stand up.

“It puts a carrot in front of the rookies that if they play well there is a chance you will be playing in the AFL side come round one.”

Gumbleton had back surgery last November and is progressing well on a modified training program.

“We are very keen to make sure we rehab Scott properly and give him every chance when he does come back so he is able to play consecutive games,” Hamilton said.

“Brent is taking the steps we want him to at the moment and we knew from the start he would not be available for the early part of the season.”

I only hope the club is not sugar coating the extent of the two boys injuries. It would be wonderful if Gumby and Prismal could both recover well and be part of this improving side. I have my fingers crossed fro both of them

Good thinking, if any of our rookies show brilliant form, they should be promoted to the seniors as soon as possible.

Just finished work, turned on the computer and there it is in BOLD red letters.Gumbleton and Prismall put on the long term injury list.My heart sank, for them then for me.Reading on,things got a little bit brighter.Feel much better now.Oh! boy,do you know how to scare a girl half to death.Well thought out plan and this will definately give one of our rookies a chance to shine.Next time not so dramatic with the words though.Diane

Seems sensible. But good luck to both guys for a successful return.

Smart thinkiing Bombers and pleased to hear that they are still on track and have not gone backwards with their injurys.

Great Move...neither was realistically likely for Round One, so why keep them in the mix. THis group of rookies seems great. A real chance for Dalgleish's pace, Dell'Olio's uncanny goal sense, Lee's experience and toughness or Balguly, Long or Hunter to run out of defence. A smart move.

The article title is immediately depressing, the explanation completely enlightening... but don't do it again, yeah?

Saw the header first on the home page, and a shiver went right up the spine... Felt better upon reading the article..phew... Good luck to all on our list this year, make serious injury a term of the past Boys.. Go Bombers :-) :-)

Good luck boys. Hope to see ya playing soon!! Go BOMBERS!!!

who is getting promoted from the rookie list??
- David Lane (posted 10/02/2012 8:37:33 AM)
Pitty we can't see all the rookies running around in the NAB cup. I would love to see Brendan Lee and Cory Dellolio if allowed two picks. Lauchlan Dalgleish a close third

Had the same thoughts as Kris and Noel. Heading was a shocker "my head went down and all I could think was game over for Gumby". More than happy with the reason!!! :) Heading could have been Gumby and Pris allow rookie chance in NAB cup!!!

mick (hurley), tayte, cale, crameri, jake have all passed gumby in any case so we have plenty of depth. would require 2 or 3 injuries in any case before gumby would be considered if fit. Kaz.T.

Excellent move. Enjoying the strategic thinking. Let's see tow rookies step up in NAB cup. Let's hope Steinberg, Ross or Davis use the NAB cup as a springboard. This will ensure players on the senior list must perform week to week to justify selection. Great motivation all round.

Phwew, after reading the snippett in the paper and then reading the headline here I felt exactly the same as Diane, first for Gumby then for Pris and then for me and all (true) Bomber supporters, but I am happy to report that I have recovered and have just accepted Diane's invitation to join her Supertipping League, thanks Di. Go Dons. :-)

Not surprised, actually expecting this as Pris only did his knee in round 19 last year, common sense move & Gumby was always going to be put on the list as the club has spent so much money on him so far in salary & medical they can't afford to delist him

Stop it EFC, you're making too much sense! How exciting is it being a fan of this great club at present, with our new facility underway, and a raft of insightful and proactive measures being employed to maximize our assets. Well done...

EFC - the only way to go..... Another chance for the rookies, if selected, to show their talents.....

Read heading - felt depressed. Read story - feel fine.

Mark McLaughlan l agree with your comments

What would really be news would be a headline reading "Gumbleton is OFF the LTI" !!!! I believe in Santa, the Easter Bunny, and maybe even that the Americans landed on the moon, but I don't believe Gumbleton will play AFL again.
- Geoff Cliff (posted 10/02/2012 3:20:03 PM)
Mark McL - I'll wager you that after this season a certain then out of contract chronically injured player is told bon voyage.
- Geoff Cliff (posted 10/02/2012 3:22:23 PM)
Tough call. On one hand I want Brent and Scott to mend quickly and return to the side, and yet at the same time I would like to see a couple of rookies show enough early talent, flair and promise to earn the reward of senior selection.

Great to see the news isnt as bad as the headline would suggest! Looking forward to seeing the boys on the park! But can anybody give us some info on MICHAEL HURLEY!?? Ive pretty much resigned myself to the fact that hes going to GWS, otherwise we would have heard something from him by now! Really dissapointed we didnt lock him in earlier!

We all despair of Gumby's situation. I haven't written him off yet but things look crook in Tallarook again this season. I keep hearing good things about Brendan Lee. Perhaps he will get an upgrade now.
- Rob Carew (posted 10/02/2012 6:02:22 PM)
i think it might be a hard task for the rookies considering we are going to be flogged the the nab cup maybe you mean the practise matches.
- Brett Martin (posted 10/02/2012 6:15:07 PM)
Thank you for your explanation as I saw the small article in today's paper which stated that Gumbleton will miss the first 8 weeks of the season as he is recovering from back surgery.I feel a lot better now.
- Annette Dwija (posted 10/02/2012 7:58:39 PM)
Good luck boys with your injuries and hope to see you back on the field again soon. Also, good luck to the two rookies that will be replacing Prismal and Gumby for how ever long they do stay in the seniors.
- Adriano Soldaini (posted 10/02/2012 8:25:54 PM)
Heading should have been - Rookies Given a Crack at Round 1! Does this mean Courtney and Winder are also on this list?
- Steven Boyle (posted 10/02/2012 9:12:17 PM)
I'm with you there Diane, shocked at first then read story & it sounds extremely sensible. Oh the intricacies of managing a team/squad. Essendon good move, very good at making the rules work for us, offering opportunities to rookies. Hope some shine in Perth. Counting the days now.

Prismal injured his knee later in the season, I am sure he will be available later we need to be patient with both players. Anne Briar Hill.

Gumby, & Pris. I am sure you fellows are absolutely frustrated, & I am chewing my nails, just waiting for you guys to dominate out there. I guess we shall all have to be patient again. Get it right, Go Bombers.
- Graeme Coad (posted 13/02/2012 11:45:27 AM)
Try again..!!! Geoff, I hope you are right, we have about 6ish on the list who either have proved over 3-5 years they will never make the grade or are past it and should have retired instead of getting huge salary just to force a future senior player out of the Bendigo side, & lets hope davids call on Gunston doesn't come back to bite him
- Mark McLachlan (posted 13/02/2012 12:19:18 PM)
Logical move and to be expected if the playing list is properly ...Hope to see both back and playing good footy..
