Hard work continues for Bombers

Essendon assistant coach Sean Wellman says there is still plenty of hard work ahead of the players as the group continues its preparations for the 2012 season.

Wellman, in charge of the defensive group at the club, has pinpointed a number of key areas in which the team is looking to improve ahead of the upcoming season.

"There is no doubt that for us to get to the level we want to get to, we need to be bigger and stronger and to be able to run out games,” he said.

“We felt that there were times last year, particularly against the better teams, when we struggled in those areas.”

Wellman is confident the team can improve on last season, with a strong platform already set during the off season.

“We have been able to power a lot of work into the guys pre-Christmas and get them to a stage where we have laid a pretty good foundation,” Wellman said.

“But we are well aware that we have still got a long way to go and we will continue the hard work now that the players have returned from their break."

The only thing that worries me and where Sean said we struggled against the better teams which isn't quite right. I thought we struggled more against the sides we should have beat.....Richmond 1st rnd, North, Melbourne, Freo

Hard work has to be achieved also away from our playing list,in the Membership/Fund Donation growth areas.. 2012/2013 is a very important time for all Members, old and new, and to all Supporters yet to be able to join or donate for very very obvious reasons, like the rising cost of living and education for our youngsters... But please, good and dear fellow Supporters and Members, try to help where and when you can with the abovementioned... I am sure OUR Club intends to repay us all in the joy and happiness stakes in the coming seasons.. GO YOU MIGHTY AND PROUD EFC !! And bless all Members & Supporters :-) :-)

All the hype and fanfare surrounding the arrival of Jim and Bomber last year has subsided. We appear to be focused more intently on our football and conditioning this pre-season. May actually affect our membership, but leaves me keen to see the boys play some footy now. Have to get to a few of the NAB games.

To all you good loyal folk. There is no doubt the players are putting in a mighty effort and will no doubt improve. Personally I think we can improve our support for the players at the games. Lets also improve our support by getting LOUDER!!! I'm one.

That sounds good. I hope that Sean can get our defensive work much stronger so that teams don't just run over us as they have done in the past few years.

Well said Noel. I could not agree with you more that we as supporters need to work just as hard as our boys to obtain that sustained success. Come on Bomber faithful - you can do it - just like our boys.

EI - I & others have asked about when EFC is having an open training session & to date you have not even shown the courtesy to even acknowledge these posts. The EFC wants our support financialy in various ways as well by attendance. It would be nice if you could acknowldge our interest & requests at some point !!!

Noel, I like your passion for the greatest club in the game, thanks. We need to be a passionate force, & to continually do our bit in supporting the Bomber Force in as many areas as possible. The Bomber boys are putting in & we should show our commitment as members & supporters by being involved where we can make a difference.Go Mighty Bombers.

Noel, you are right. Well said. I have only been playing on this site since 2009, but in that time have seen a club effectively stripped down and rebuilt. That takes time, resources (money) and support. We have expectations of success, rightly, but need to continue to offer the support and patience to reach the levels we were from 1983 to 2001...sustainedd growth and success.

Charles - We apologise for the delay in a response to your query - the club's administration staff have just returned back to the club after the break. We are still working with the football department to secure an open session. We will keep you posted on our progress.

EI - Thanks for the reply. It's frustrating to read about many of the other teams in melbourne having open training sessions while we miss out. Thanks for the response though.
