Essendon’s high performance manager Dean Robinson says the club’s newest recruits will ease in to the demands of the club’s pre-season campaign.
Robinson praised the work ethic of a number of the club’s latest recruits – including exciting prospects Elliot Kavanagh and Nick O’Brien.
Robinson praised the work ethic of a number of the club’s latest recruits – including exciting prospects Elliot Kavanagh and Nick O’Brien.
“All of the new recruits, including the rookies are going really well and going through their introductory programs and light sessions,” Robinson said.
“We are enjoying teaching them the basics at the current time, but we’re not expecting too much from them at the moment in terms of workloads.
“We want to get the learning done, and get the basics right and over the next twelve months they will adapt, and grow and change in size.”
Captain Jobe Watson also highlighted the development of the club’s younger players during the current pre-season campaign.
“One of the more pleasing signs of this pre-season has been the development of the younger players, especially the younger midfielders,” Watson said.
“At this stage, I’m not sure what team we’ll take over to Perth (Round 1 NAB Cup) but I assume it will be quite a young side so I image the likes of Elliot, Nick and the younger guys will all get their chance to showcase their skills.
“The NAB Cup will be a good opportunity for the younger guys to get a real taste of AFL football.”

Dean knows too much about developing and maintaining strong, fit, bodies and limbs, to be running our new recruits into the ground. I'm really looking forward to seeing how they go in the Nab cup, as well as all of our other young players.
Do we need some more incentive to get behind the greatest AFL club in Australia? Try this trivia. If you add premierships from VFA/VFL/AFL/Reserves/U19/Preseason/Night/Lightning Premiership the list reads...Essendon 43 flags...Carlton 34, Melbourne 34, Richmond 34, Collingwood 31 (Ha!)Even Port Adelaide has a combined 42 (SANFL/AFL/Pre-Season - though I cannot find their reserves/U19 figures, but who cares). Doesn't this hammer home the greatness of this club since 1872? That has to inspire membership...I hope.
Sorry, the previous entry does not fit the story, but where else could I put it? Can't wait to see Kavanagh, O'Brien and Merrett in pre-season cup. More excited though by the thought of Ross, Browne, Davis, Steinberg, Hibberd and rookies Dalgleish, Lee, Dell'Olio, Baguley, Hunter and Long. There is plenty of talent there raring to go and staking claims for round one.
Great poat Wesley, thanks for the great investigation work. Makes me smile even more.Diane
NAB Cup is an opportunity for our younger players to get a taste of what to expect, to show what they've learnt pre-season. A chance to shine. Looking forward to seeing the red&black back on the field.
Well done Wesley, very interesting, although I suspect you have a bit too much time on your hands during the school holidays. :-) Go Bombers
With the Advantage plan, there is no excuse. Even if you don't go every week, part with some money. Surely most can part with less than $10 a day! We get so much enjoyment from footy.
I love my EFC too Wesley but I think it's time you got out more.
Cant wait for 2012 i could get this club to smash the 60,000 record. Gonna sign up 3 new members this year.
Jimmy does not look to impressed with Kavanagh's 'moon tan'?
Love to hear more from you Pete Murray, you have had one hit. Wes, you rock. Always talk football, and you know your stuff mate. Played it, coach it and a student of our great game. Keep it up - we, the majority love it.
