Rick Ladson appointed to development role

Essendon Football Club is delighted to announce Rick Ladson has accepted a role in player development for the 2012 season.

Ladson, 27, played 125 games for Hawthorn and will work closely with the club’s young players as a part of the Jack Jones Development Program.

Essendon general manager football operations Paul Hamilton said Ladson would be a valuable addition to the club.

“ We are really pleased to have secured Rick’s services to further enhance the Jack Jones Development Program,” Hamilton said.

“Rick has graduated out of a very good development system at Hawthorn and we have been impressed with the enthusiasm and knowledge he has clearly expressed throughout this process."

Ladson, who debuted in 2003 after being recruited from the Bendigo U18s said he was extremely excited to be joining the Bombers.

“Since I got delisted from Hawthorn, everything has been up in the air a little bit,” Ladson said.

“But I’m really passionate about the development of young players and looking forward to getting started.

“Essendon has always been a really big and successful club so I can’t wait to come on board and learn as much as I can from the quality coaches and people involved at the club.”

Hamilton said the development and welfare role presented Ladson with a wonderful opportunity to develop his skills.

“We are very confident that under the guidance of Danny Corcoran and James Byrne, Rick will make a very positive contribution to the development of our young players.”

Surely a "development/playing" role was offered to him at GWS..... but he chose the Bombers over a playing career.... VERY INTERESTING!!!!!!!

I do not like Hawthorn, but must concede this chap is not a hack to play 125 games in the National Comp, and during a successful playing list rebuild to a Premiership is nothing to be sneezed at.. Our successful era was coming to an end,but we were able to squeeze out a few more dominating performances while they were still developing...Now we have to scale the same mountain of expectation, and appointments like Rick's,who has lived through such an experience, can only enhance our bright and exciting future. Welcome to Bomberland Rick :-) :-)

I like the way we have gained coaches like Ladson, Egan, Goodwin, Skipworth who are not long out of playing. Good insights to go with the longer retired types. Be good if he could line up for Bendigo this season also.

Welcome to you as a part of our club Rick. Developing our young players' mentally, physically & skillfully is paramount to building a strong club, that can maintain success. Enjoy your time with the Bombers.

Rick, welcome to a club which has much better colours than your former club, the Tassie Hawks. Being fresh out of playing at the highest level, with a very good team, you should have a lot to give Essendon.

Is it true Jetta pulled a Hammy again?

Rick, welcome to the EFC. Wow! Off field, the talented group of coaches + continues to grow... Can't wait to see our players strutting their stuff in 2012..... There will be no turning back, the challenge for more success will prove to be tougher than 2011..... GO BOMBERS!!!!!
- Victor Tallis (posted 9/12/2011 10:12:28 PM)
Will be a cert to line up for Bendigo you would think. Development coach, perfect in the magoos. Then can we get a photo of him in red and black? Not happy with that one. Jetta done a hammy - again al? Did not realize he has a history with them, mmm, Leroy - Koby Stevens? Get on it Dods.
- Brad Scarr (posted 10/12/2011 9:59:02 AM)
A very underrated player in his time and was not given enough recognition by the media. He was a great mark for his size and a pretty good goal kicker who could bob up and hurt opposition teams. Hope he does a good job imparting his knowledge and skills on to our younger players.
- Alan De Menezes (posted 10/12/2011 10:42:13 AM)
Sorry Leroy. I still have trouble getting over what you did in the final. 20 out, slight angle and laid off to an unsuspecting Trav Colyer 35 out? Missed shot, run out of defence for Robinson to kick a goal and seal our fate. I WILL get over it. You finished fantastic in 2010, last year the other way.
- Brad Scarr (posted 10/12/2011 8:01:29 PM)
Wow, jobs for everyone apart from Andy Lovett and Fev.
