Ross raring to go

Essendon midfielder Michael Ross is embracing his second pre-season at AFL level after the team returned to the track earlier this week following a Christmas break.

Ross made his debut in Round 19 against Collingwood last season, immediately making an impact with his impressive pace and decisive decision making.

The 20-year-old is hoping plenty of hard work over the pre-season can lead to more games at senior level in 2012.

“I played two games at senior level last year, hopefully if I play well this season I can improve on that effort,” Ross said.

“I want to try and get some consistency up over the next month and play regularly throughout the NAB cup competition.”

Ross is confident an increased workload during the off season will hold him in good stead heading into his second year at the club.

“We have had a solid start to the pre-season so far - it has been a lot more intense than last year which has been really beneficial for the players,” he said.

Ross says the team is responding well to the program put in place by new high performance manager Dean Robinson.

“There is no doubt Dean has been able to get the most out of the guys so far in this pre-season,” he said.

“The sessions have been very structured and the intensity levels have increased as well.”

Smash Carlton and Collingwood, finish above them and all is good.

sounds like Dean is making a difference to the team. This increase in speed & strength will assist their confidence. Good luck for a successful year Michael. You are part of a great club.

I think Man U sounds like a better fit Davo. No drafts, no evenness in the comp and chances are, top 2 every year, with no finals and 3 or 4 chances to win 'something' every season. The players are brought in ready made champions (with no loyalty to club or fans) and you do have a big turnover, if you don't like someone, chances are they will be gone soon. Mmm, sounds pretty boring.

All this talk is well and good guys. Essendon must sign Michael Hurley immediately because Greater Western Sydney are offering him 1 million dollars to play there next season. His contract is up at the end of this year. He will have that hanging over his shoulders all season. We need Hurls at Essendon if we are to have success

Michael good to see you've had a strong preseason. I've been a long term supporter of your inclusion at senior level because you seem to have the acceleration mentally and physically to spark the team. You're a great winner of the ball and broken field runner, but now push forward and kick goals too.

Michael I really do hope all your hard work pays off for you. You showed us what you can do with the little we saw of you. I am sure you will do well in 2012. Hard work always pays off in the end.

Good question Leigh!I was asking that question to somebody last week.Does anyone know?EI can you shed some light on this question? That is-when will we know which players are given what numbers?

Rossy, we hope to see more of you in 2012. Give it your best to be the very best. If some currently at AFL level can do it, then you can. Self belief is the secret, & hardwork of course.Go Bomber.

Michael certainly showed in his first game for Essendon that he has the skills and pace to be a very good player at AFL level. Being still only 20 years old, he will only get better.

Michael got his taste at the top level last year, and has two pre-seasons now. I think he will be a key playmaker this year. Good luck, Michael.

Well done. Everywhere I go this summer I hear from Essendon people about Dean Robertson and the weights programs the boys are doing. How much has Dean revised what he has done with Geelong and has he improved on his 'product'? Can we keep this edge for a while?
- Barney Sneddon (posted 14/01/2012 2:31:32 PM)
Barney, I think it's safe to say that Dean had a very good product when he was at Geelong, where he spent 4 years with Bomber Thompson, and was held (and probably still is) in high regard by the players, with Cameron Ling not long ago referring to him as "the weapon". It is possible that Dean has improved his product further, because I imagine that he would be regularly studying the very latest advances in fitness and muscle building from all around the world.
