Steinberg, who impressed as a promising forward with the Bendigo Bombers in his first year, said he was pushing for a senior debut next season, inspiring him to work harder on the training track.
“During the year with Bendigo, I tried my best every week and I think I improved a lot just having the experience at Essendon, so that’s all you can really ask for,” Steinberg said.
“With Bendigo, I was probably disappointed with how we finished the year, because I thought we were probably a better side than what we ended up on the ladder.
“Personally, I want to get bigger and stronger, and I am really hoping to build on that during the pre-season. I think when we get stuck in to the season, I really just want to play good, consistent football and be a good team mate.”
Steinberg, who was selected with pick 31 in the 2010 AFL Draft, said he was preparing to put in a hardworking pre-season campaign under new high performance coach Dean Robinson.

“It’s been pretty good so far, and the new head of fitness Dean Robinson has us going through our paces. But the body is feeling really good, and I am really looking forward to getting a full pre-season under my belt,” he said.
“Dean’s main sort of lessons are – ‘work hard and you’ll reap the benefits’. I think there will be a lot of hard work across the board in the next couple of months.”
Steinberg promises to be a versatile player capable of holding down key forward and midfield positions on the ground with the 19-year-old keen to continue his on-field development.
“Basically, at the moment, we’re sleeping and eating a lot,” Steinberg said.
“But overall - as the younger guys - we’re all growing up and getting used to the demands of the pre-season so it will be interesting to see where we are in the next couple of months. I am definitely looking forward to the upcoming season and ready to go."

A few in the "James Hird Academy" are draft age or close to it, any whispers guys. ???
You can put a kid in the gym and build a body and get them fit, you can put em in a class room and teach stategies but you can't beat raw talent. This kid has got raw talent and when you add a few Hird/Thompson footy smarts let the comp look ouy
Talented, gutsy, team player. The potential we've seen now ready to click into gear with Aerial and from then on he'll also see himself as a champion. It's a mutual leap of faith that becomes self fulfilling. So selectors--- we've had a decade of stodginess, now be sparky-- get our young recruits out on the park.
Going to be a superstar alongside Crameri and Hurley both talented. Hoping he makes an appearance against GWS.
Quite apart from the descriptions of Steinberg as a key forward, I am curious about the "X factor" reputation he has. I remember comparisons to Stevie J, with an ability to do things others can't. Hope that is true and gives us a freakishly talented key forward.
It's really interesting about Round 9 2012. 18 listed players, 3 coaches, a Footy Manager and a couple of doctors all up against Kevin Sheedy. Really can't wait till we slaughter them, wipe the smile of his face!
Lad seems to have a very good attitude and as you know a big part of the game is played between the ears.
I've seen a few of the VFL games that Steinberg has played, and think that he is a lively looking player who can get his hands on the footy often, and is a good Arielist.
Just keep working hard Ariel and good things will come, all the best to the boys during the pre season. Lets stay injury free!! at least Michael Quinn cant break any players legs now!!!
Good one Gordon, I read an article during the year, not this site, that he has a real x-factor in his game..
GREAT NEWS FOR THE YOUTH AND THEY HAVE BEEN READY AND WAITING.THOMAS CHANGE IS COMING,AND DAVID BLOMLEY SO TRUE WHAT YOU SAID,BUT THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY TO FIND OUT. GO BOMBERS
I see Saints have invited Marigliani to train with them. Another one we're about to lose ?
ALEC WE HAVE LOST A FEW AND IT WORIED ME THAT HE AND ATKINSON ALSO HOULI ARE NOT BOMBERS,CLASS GRUNT POISE AND BALANCE,MAKES YOU WONDER,I WOULD HAVE GOT RID OF OTHERS BEFORE THOSE 3
EI, I have had an idea for the website. Could you introduce a 'like' button (like facebook) for each comment someone posts on the website. Some comments are really good and it would make the website more interactive. Thoughts?? Regards Jaden Frigo
Interesting they say he can play midfield... never heard that before...
Good luck to them Alec. He was with they're affiliate last year. The Saints have not got a good record with the mature age rookie. He is not up to it, (I would love to be that good though).
Every year when it comes to Pre Season training, we are allowed to have former players from other clubs to train, it's no wonder nobody wants to play for us. We have an opportiunity to see what Matthew Little, Ben Duscher and the likes.. goodness.. please ..
Most pleasing comment is that he wants to be a good "team mate". It's a team game and Premiers usually do the team things. Good luck Ariel.
Only 19. He looks a great prospect for the future of this club. Gotta be happy with that Bomber supporters.
Stefanos Y, you are going over very old and well-tilled ground with those blokes. Marigliani, it was explain by some in-the-know among us, left because a rookie contract was not sufficient for him/family to live on, Atkinson did not want to commit to the effort required to consistently get up to the AFL grade, and Houli, perhaps under-played?, refused to be convinced to stay by the new coaches and left. They were not gotten rid of as much as left. Happy to be corrected. Maybe Marigliani has changed his mind (Seaford also is closer to where he is from.)
Hey Al, never forget what the great man did for our club. I couldn`t care if he`s the enemy now, he`s still the man that won us four flags. Yeah, lets slaughter them, but I hope they have a good year for the old fella.
EI - Did we have any uncontracted players training with us?
Spent time with his Dad in the season break instead of Lost Vegies. Interesting to see how fate favours in 2012.
Houli was not played because he lacked courage and would wait for the ball to come to him & usually flat footed, no loss
Looking forward to seeing you on the track in the red'n'black Ariel. Sounds like you are wanting to absorb the experience & wisdom that is available to you young guys in our coaching panel. Good luck for a strong pre season.
With Stewart Crameri being elevated to the primary list & only 3 retiree's another 3 players have to either retire or be delisted to get the list down to the AFL required 35 b4 the draft, why leave half of our list "sweating" waiting for the DCM, the sooner they are informed the more serious they can get about their training
Ahh the Drafts are getting closer, and one can tell in these forums... :-) The anticipation is bubbling, and everyone is in fine voice :-) Welcome forum on young Ariel, has a bit of Jim Mc Allister/Mark Bolton in him,his marking prowess a real highlight.. Have a great career young man !!
Well done to All,and a very cheerful "welcome back" to our Friend Alan :-) :-) Go You Mighty Dons !!
In terms of delistings, other things being equal, youngsters should be retained over players that have already had a fair go to build a career. That's what Walsh's retirement was about and it creates a good spirit at the club.
Mark McLachlan - regarding Houli..... You must have been looking at the wrong player..... We still have several players in the team that I would have got rid of before Houli..... These players will be on their last chance next season, no worries about that.....
Mark Mc: no further delistings are required to comply with afl rules. you must take three national draft picks minimum. as it stands, we have pick 19, 31 and will elevate crameri at #59. that is all that HAS to be done. we may, of course, opt to delist a few more on November 16 but we don't have to.
The recent series of articles in The Herald about famous and highly successful picks at all numbers in the draft is quite an eye-opener. Some early in draft history can be discounted but even as recently as 2005 (Dane Swan) very late picks can be surprise. Sometimes ya just never know!
Sorry Welshy, it was a typo. Well, one young Michael (now gone) did in your ankle, but maybe there's another who'll more than justify what you did for the club in retiring early
I have heard good things about this kid especially toward the end of last season. Good if he puts more pressure for a spot on the team
Jason, I read in the AFL web site that it was compulsory that clubs have to get down to 35 listed players, sorry I probably got it wrong, EI might correct me
Victor, no mate I was watching the right player for sure, not doubting his pace & skills, just desire, also agree whole heartedly we have not several, probably 10ish that should have gone, not instead, but with him..
Jason, I copied the following from the AFL web site, but couldn't find a date on it so it might have changed..
"NAB AFL Draft
It is compulsory for clubs to participate and by this stage they can have a maximum of 35 players on their list."
Still not sure about Stewie though, cheers
Mark, mcveigh and fletch are on the veterans list and so are outside the 35, instead taking positions one and two on the rookie total. crameri is not yet officially on the senior list. that is the three that gets us down to 35.
WITH HIRD AND BOMBER ITS ALL GOING TO CHANGE THEY WILL CLEAR OUT THE STODG,WITH ROSS,BROWNE AND STEINBERG SHINING. EVERYONE WILL HAVE TO PLAY HARD BECAUSE THE YOUTH IS COMING, ITS EXITING
Thanx Jason, I thought being on the vet's list only affected the salary cap
Thanks Noel. Its great to be back in Melbourne and talking footy again. Its a pity I missed Hepell in India....lol
So, Jason, if I understand this thread correctly, when we upgrade Crameri we have 36 and only two live picks on draft day and no PSD, is this right? To get more would require more delistings? That would make our draft selections very important to get right, I guess.
EI, as it stands now, how many picks do we have & does the club have to delist anymore b4 the draft, thanx
Wes, yes as it stands right now we would use picks #19 and #31, upgrade Crameri at #59 and we're done. The list at that point would be full. so a preseason draft pick would require another delisting. once crameri is upgraded, we then have 6 of 8 rookie spots to fill. The other 2 rookie spots are held by our two veterans.
