Video: Prismall progressing with recovery

Determined midfielder Brent Prismall says dealing with injuries is one of the most difficult things to overcome in football, but the 25-year-old is confident of making of return to the field ahead of the upcoming season.

Watch the full interview here on BomberTV →

Prismall, who was limited to 8 games in 2011, ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in round 19 for the second time in his career and said he had recently resumed rehabilitation following successful surgery.

“The rehab is going well and my knee is progressing as we thought,” Prismall said.

“Since I’ve done my other knee, I sort of know what to expect so now I’m starting to really progress with my running and I’m starting to do more in the gym so hopefully it’s smooth sailing from here.”

The midfielder sustained his first ACL tear whilst playing for Geelong against St Kilda in 2008.

“Some parts of the rehab have been easier but yet some parts have been harder (the second time around), probably because I know how long of a process it can take.”

“At the moment though, it is going well and hopefully with the experience I had from my last knee injury, I’ll be able to do a few things differently.”

Prismall said working with injured pair Courtenay Dempsey and Jason Winderlich had assisted his recovery, as the trio strive to get back to the field following their respective knee injuries.

“Both Courtenay and Jason have both been going really well and I’ve been working with them a little bit," he said.

“Obviously they’re both three months ahead of me in terms of their rehab, but it is always good to bounce ideas off them and see how they’re going. They are both progressing well and are on track to have a good year I’m sure.”

Prismall told BomberTV he was focused on making a full recovery ahead of the 2012 season.

“Apart from getting my knee right at the moment, I’m not focused on too much else. Hopefully that will take care of itself and then once I start back playing, I obviously want to have a good year and get back into the senior side as quickly as I can,” Prismall said.

"I also want to make sure that when I do get back playing, I am fully ready to go.”

Following last week’s membership launch, Prismall urged all Bomber fans to get behind the team in season 2012.

“I just urge all Bomber fans to get out and buy yourself a membership to get on board with the Club as early as you can.”

All the very best, Prissy. You deserve a bit of luck. On another note, surprised to see none of our recent delistees have nominated for the draft, not even Jay. Were they not serious about playing at the top level ?

No worries hia Pris, the money order was sent yesterday, and that was for three, and another son who gets his direct debited makes four, can't wait for the action to start, bored stiff trying to avoid Clarkes clucks in south Africa, but he lost me when he said he wasn't the type of Australian who drives a ute, well for his benefit, I am.

Sometimes players have chronic injury problems that flare up continually over time. Sometimes players are just dead unlucky. Fancy having talent and having Geelong choose you (Corey, Enright, Ablett, Chapman, Bartel, Selwood etc to compete with), then snapping two knees working your backside off to prove yourself at two clubs. I really hope some great luck comes to haunt you, Pris. Good Luck!!

With Dempsey and Winderlich hopefully ready for rd 1, and Prismall part way through the season, it's something we all look forward to seeing. Hopefully the rest of their careers won't be as injury riddled, they've all gone through quite a bit.

Good to hear that all is going well for you. I'm sure you will come back firing. It must be a bit of a bore, but it will be worth it.

Considering the extent of long-term injuries to Prismall, Gumbleton, Winderlich and Dempsey the progress reports on each of them are positive and encouraging. Let's hope 2012 will be hamstring injury free for Watson and Hooker. Sadly, injury has cut short budding careers for Daniher and Long. Now in next week's national draft imagine the consternation on this website if Essendon drafts Kavanagh with his suspect hamstring. It will be a case of balancing the positive with the negative - potentially elite but can he play???

UP & DOWN: Every year it seems national draft prospects either "rocket" or "slide" in the final week. Markworth is now #13/14. Kavanagh anywhere down to mid 20s. Sheridan potentially up around 20. Honestly, no idea for Grigg and Ross but likely 2nd rounders. Like politics the only poll (draft) that counts is the real deal.

Brent, you like Gumby need some luck going your way mate. We all know you can play and once you get that body right I am sure you will start to shine as your confidence grows. All the best mate.

Love this guy - can't wait to see him back up and running as soon as possible, definitely a required cog in our midfield.

The BIG difference Norman B. is Gumbleton came to Essendon with no known injury; whereas, Kavanagh's injury history is well documented. Strongly suspect that if Scott becomes injury free he will make quite a few people sit up and take notice. IF Thursday evening brings Elliot to Dons there are no hidden surprises.
