The Bombers are baulking the booze this February by taking part in febfast, an initiative that challenges people to give up alcohol for the shortest month of the year. Coach James Hird will lead nine Essendon players in the program which is aimed at raising funds to help young Australians take control of their lives by overcoming alcohol and drug problems.

Bombers fans have the chance to be part of the action when the team travels to the Goldfields region for the 2012 Australia Post Community Camp on Monday. Essendon players will take part in two NAB AFL super clinics during the two day camp followed by 30-minute signing sessions.

The Bombers young brigade earlier this week returned from a two day team building camp to the Grampians aimed at strengthening the bond between the clubs first and second year players. Development coach James Byrne led the group in activities such as bike riding, kayaking and hiking aimed at building strong off-field relationships amongst the team.

Essendon captain Jobe Watson is confident the club’s new high performance centre at the Melbourne Airport will help in attracting the best players possible to the Bombers. Construction began on the new centre earlier this week with the hope the team will be training at the new base within the next twelve months.
