Myers sidelined with foot injury

The Bombers have suffered a major blow ahead of Saturday’s clash with Brisbane with boom youngster, David Myers, ruled out for the next four weeks with a stress reaction in his right foot.

Club doctor, Bruce Reid, said that the 19-year-old had not previously shown any signs of the injury.

“With his stress reaction he simply got sore as the game (against Fremantle) went on and was really sore after the game,” he said. “There was no real warning."

“He has had scans and he has a hot spot in his foot – there is no fracture, it is just a stress reaction.”

Reid said the club will “back him off for a few weeks” and will not take any risks with the 191cm, defender.

“We will put him in a ‘moon boot’ and let his foot heal naturally from there and then assess him again in a few weeks,” he said.

Ironically, the West Australian is next expected to be available for the Bombers' Round 19 clash with West Coast in Perth.

Myers has played eight games since being drafted by Essendon with pick no. 6 in the 2007 national draft. He has been touted by many at Essendon as a future leader and even club captain.
