Lovett attracts interest on day one of trade week

Speaking exclusively on Bomber.tv, Essendon list manager, Adrian Dodoro, today said it had been a quiet first day of trade week but that there had been interest from other clubs in Andrew Lovett.

“Like every club, we have our plan but are going to wait and see how the week unfolds and today was just about talking to the 15 other sides,” Dodoro said.

“We want to do what is best for Essendon and there will be many twists and turns as the week progresses – it’s too early to rule anything out so we will simply wait and see what unfolds over the next four days.”

Dodoro said Essendon hadn’t ruled out recruiting Sydney’s Ryan O’Keefe but said that the club had a youth policy and was primarily focused on securing new young players.

DO NOT GET RID OF ANDY LOVETT!!!!! I can not press this point enough! I understand that he has had his "off field indisgrestions" but surely the pace and agility he gives the team on the ground out weigh whatever trouble he gets himself into... Please please please re-think this! He is to important to the team. I'm not the only supporter that thinks this, please listen to the supporters...

By all means go after O'Keefe but not at any cost.Consider Prismall and Daniel Harris also. Both would be great pick ups.
- Mark Elze (posted 6/10/2008 5:25:30 PM)
If Okeefe cant be lured here at least go for Prismall, hes young, a midfielder. Both would be nice
- Cameron D'Cruz (posted 6/10/2008 5:58:52 PM)
LOVETT is still in our best 22.........get over IT BOMBERS!

do not trade andy L.
- Shayne Harris (posted 6/10/2008 6:49:52 PM)
this team is not a true club. it ain't all about the on field stuff. if a player has off field issues. you gotta help him get through it. don't just put them on the trading block. i thought this club was better. andrew lovvet has MASSIVE potential. not everyone deals with the pressure of league football the same way. you guys are gonna regret it when we trade him and then he picks up 30 disposals and 3 goals against us next season.
- Andrew Fisher (posted 6/10/2008 6:51:20 PM)
i know everyone is dissapointed at the idea of loosing lovett but we can do really well out of this. pick up prismal but then either pick up o'keefe or harris by trading lovett for them. i belive o'keefe will add more to the side because of his pure skill. wheres harris will give us more onball dominance. but we can really benefit from this. think about it guys.

Short memories, look what happened when Hille got hurt and we don`t need a seasoned player or two. The last two seasons we lost Hird, Johnson, Rama, Peverill,Johnson,Michael and co and forgot to help the talented kids out with some EXPERIENCED players. Need to go ahead or we will still be rebuilding in 5 years time with this new draft system
- Barry Douce (posted 6/10/2008 7:13:52 PM)
I agree with you Megan - he is a really good player, but Dodoro and Knights would obviously know this. You and I as supporters cannot know what happens inside the club, and if they (Dodoro and Knights) feel that it's time for him to move on, that he is possibly doing more damage then good at Essendon, then I don't really think we are in the right position to question their judgement.

Don't get rid of Lovett. Look at Johnson at geelong. At best we'll get pick 12 - we need his pace and foot skills
- Mike Lagastes (posted 6/10/2008 7:36:01 PM)
one stage essendon were looking for fast midfield now there getting rid of essendon best midfielder whats up with that bull....
- Luke Jones (posted 6/10/2008 8:09:51 PM)
I don't think trading lovett is a good idea we have stuggled with pace for a few years now it dosen't make much sence getting rid of the one thing we need the most.I havent been to happy with the trads over the last few years letting mark johnson go was not to cleaver we need that hardness at our club. Please make sure you make some wise moves this year at trade and draft weeks. Ps come back to were you belong Hirdy.
- Scott Hope (posted 6/10/2008 8:12:31 PM)
dont trade LOVETT what are you thinkin
- deon harris (posted 6/10/2008 8:27:38 PM)
lovett, lovett, lovett wake up to your self son i dont want to see go just like the next supporter your a bright player dont throw it away the red and black suites you .JUST GROW UP!!!
- mario borg (posted 6/10/2008 8:30:17 PM)
essendon needs blokes who put in every week, not show ponys who have a couple of good games a year and serve up crap for the rest of the season[ on and off the field] get what u can for lovett and play blokes who play for the team, not themselves!
- russ hillier (posted 6/10/2008 8:38:20 PM)
good move on not chasing okeefe. he is not what this club needs! mark, harris is not what we need either. he is slow, and all he does is handball, and is very inconsistent. eatson is way better. lovett can go...try and get a 1st rounder out of it:)
- James Brown (posted 6/10/2008 8:49:25 PM)
Get rid of Pevrill at your own peril. I fail to understand how experienced staff have such a poor perception.
- Winston D'Cruz (posted 6/10/2008 8:58:52 PM)
Get rid of lovett. and get joel selwood.
- isaac brown (posted 6/10/2008 9:37:54 PM)
DO NOT GET RID OF ANDY LOVETT!!!!! I can not i cnt get this point across enough! I understand that off-field he has had some problems" but surely his skill and ability can get him out of what he gets him self into off-field, let his footy do the talking... do not get rid of him it would be a big mistake and if you do get ready for him to dominate against us because of it, i'd much rather him dominate for us then against us...
- Tyler Langford (posted 7/10/2008 1:19:46 AM)
Go get Prismall!!!!! That kid is going to be a gun! His class and skill is exactly what we need in our midfield - His worth the 12 month wait!
- daniel joseph (posted 7/10/2008 7:08:14 AM)
I agree 100% with Megan. Lovet is one of those electrifying players that we supporters come to the footy to see. His ability to turn a game and slice up opposition midfields to open up the play is just spectacular to watch. His last quarter against Carlton where he kicked 3 goals was just brilliant. As a club we should be trying to help Andrew with his life off the field, not trading him to another club. In 2 years time a midfield of Watson, Stanton, Monfries, Lonergan and Dyson will be potent, throw in Lovett's pace and we will be able to tear the opposition apart. I'd really reconsider trading him to another club.
- Kymmy Hinton (posted 7/10/2008 7:17:53 AM)
Megan Hildebrand i agree with you 101%. I understand the club has policy's and rules it must adhere too, and i also understand that Andy got himself into a fair bit of trouble off the field, but dont get rid of him just because of that. Think of the value he brings to the club. There are other players that should have been gone but nah you went ahead and kept them, so why not re think andy's situation and possible stay at the club. Be fair!
- mary agius (posted 7/10/2008 7:19:08 AM)
DO NOT GET RID OF ANDY LOVETT!!!! - understand he has had two bad reports, but he is young and like most young people, he did wrong without even thinking right. Personally I would hate to lose his speed in the Club, speed and talent is what the Club needs most. PLEASE SAY NO TO HIS TRADE - Shirley Price
- Shirley Price (posted 7/10/2008 7:41:11 AM)
By trading Lovett our club would be telling the young players that we will not support them when they are troubled off the field, I like Paul Roos's Philosophy about helping them & not deserting them & also Lovett has so much ability lets help him not desert him..
- Mark McLachlan (posted 7/10/2008 8:06:37 AM)
Andrew Lovett is a must keep player. Knights needs to work with Andrew and not turn his back on a potential champion. If it is too hard for Knights perhaps he should be the one who goes so that the Bombers can get back on track as the great club we all know. Make sure the recruiters get what the club needs but O'Keeffe for Lovett is a lose/lose for Essendon Arthur Johnstone
- Arthur Johnstone (posted 7/10/2008 8:15:21 AM)
Go get Prismall and forget about the older players, they will be reaching retirement when we are a premiership contender again.
- Gary Culpin (posted 7/10/2008 9:27:18 AM)
Andrew Lovett is an excitement machine when he has the ball and is running towards goals but unfortunately that doesn't happen often enough to negate the times his opponent sets up attacking plays while Lovett is walking 50m behind the play. Let's trade him for a player who is well balanced both on and off the field.
- Shaun Ellis (posted 7/10/2008 10:20:27 AM)
are you pickin up whats been put down with %90 of these comments
- deon harris (posted 7/10/2008 10:51:53 AM)
Leave andrew lovett at essendon!!! his a too good of a player to let go.. Its always good watching him running towards goal with his fast speed.. Leave him a bomber!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Michael Camilleri (posted 7/10/2008 11:23:11 AM)
Matthew Knights "One United Essendon" Andrew Lovett is a player with game winning potential We must work with him to show ths AFL and others Our Club sticks together when times are tough . O'keefe at 600 thousand a year I Don't think so Len Trott ( Bombers Forever )
- Len Trott (posted 7/10/2008 11:54:55 AM)
Lovett. He has certainly got everyone talking. There was a big improvement in Lovett's game (especially his kicking for goal) this year but in some games when the going got tough he was found wanting but this is a trait with many of the modern players. Depending on the situation within the "club" I believe his contract should be extended. O'Keefe - forget it. On with the new ............
- Victor Tallis (posted 7/10/2008 2:09:34 PM)
Leave Lovett where he belongs, at Essendon.Surely the club as proffesional as it is has personnel to look after the welfare of the indigenous players, they all have minor indiscretion, but remember one thing we will not win a flag without them. Brian Springbett 7/10/09.
- Brian Springbett (posted 7/10/2008 3:54:15 PM)
lovett is one of the most exciting players in the league! do not trade him! yes he has had a couple of off feild indiscretions but he's the type of player that sells tickets & wins games! the 2 things every club needs. hence he is getting so much attention!
- David Mitchell Mitchell (posted 7/10/2008 4:01:35 PM)
Andrew Lovett is irreplaceable!!!!!!
- Amelia Francis (posted 7/10/2008 4:18:14 PM)
Has anyone thought that maybe all this talk about Lovett is just a ploy by the Bombers to get him fired up for next season. Let's hope it doesn't back fire on us and we see him at his best next year. What would be worse than loosing Lovett is him getting the sulks up and being the bad apple - we have a solid base of youth that doesn't need to be exposed to that!
- Matthew Giliam (posted 7/10/2008 4:19:32 PM)
I agree with everyone else DO NOT GET RID OF ANDY LOVETT we need speed and he has it. Help him with his problems. He won an ANZAC medal in his first year. Please keep him
- Gayle Crawford (posted 7/10/2008 4:48:33 PM)
LOVETT HAS TO STAY : ( geez hes such a good player when he is in the right zone on the footy feild. sure he may have made some mistakes outside of football or whatever but he has such good pace and always brings excitment! as other people has mentioned he does need to grow up a bit and take it more seriously but if he can do that imagine what his game would be like most weeks, AWESOME! keep him in red and black!
- Cassie Reimers (posted 7/10/2008 5:11:09 PM)
Excellent decison by the Club to let young Andrew go. We must draw the line in the sand and learn from the mistakes of the Eagles and other clubs (notably Collingwood who are most certainly on the same self-denial pathway that the Eagles chose to follow). Players beware - young and old: it's not your football talent alone that counts, its your committment and selfless dedication to making our Club great that counts!!!
- Greg Franich (posted 7/10/2008 5:59:06 PM)
If Essendon are going to trade Lovett then I think it would definately be fair for O'Keefe and a round 4 pick. Lovett can change the whole game with his speed and agility. He gets the crowd going and the team as well. He is a icon at Essendon and I really don't think they should get rid of him.
- Thomas Jackson (posted 7/10/2008 6:44:49 PM)
DO NOT GET RID OF LOVETT PLEASE WE LOVE HIM ALL THE FANS LOVE HIM
- James Harrington (posted 7/10/2008 7:01:58 PM)
whilst lovett is a good player we can cover his loss, remember we have davey in the wings who is just as skillful but has more desire, discipline and appears to be a team player. lovett is inconsistent and appears to be a showpony.
- Greg Kemp (posted 7/10/2008 8:24:15 PM)
Andy Lovett is a star for our team cause he has the speed like Ablett, Judd and Kerr and he can run all day but if he goes he will be going to Syney or Geelong!
- Michael Parsons (posted 8/10/2008 7:45:14 AM)
Lovett we want to stay at the club because we need a lot of speed and skill in the midfield, because he has done a lot for the club and we will miss him if he goes but the fans love him.
