Essendon will continue to support Lovett

Andrew Lovett will appear in court later this month to answer charges of driving while unlicensed.

Andrew lost his licence following an accumulation of demerit points.

“Andrew’s actions are unacceptable and he will now face the consequences of the law,” Essendon managing director Peter Jackson said. “He needs to understand the community has standards and he like all of us has a responsibility to meet them.”

“We will continue to work with Andrew to help him make better decisions in his life. It has been a challenge for him – and remains one - but we believe as a Club we have the support networks in place that will give him the best chance of meeting community expectations on an on-going basis.”

We all make mistakes in life, you have to learn from them and try to make yourself into person that today's society will accept, playing in the AFL you are always under the spotlight and everyone knows it, all the best in court Andrew hope it goes well for you as it has on the footy field this season.
- Philip Martin (posted 4/06/2009 6:50:59 PM)

Gee the Court "System" really goes at it's own pace doesn't it!? This happened LAST YEAR if you don't mind.... We're all with you Andrew, because you are NEWSWORTHY that is why the world now knows... More selective media reporting once again... There are hundreds of cases like this one each year, but are they all reported in the press ??!!
- Noel Shields (posted 4/06/2009 7:27:34 PM)

if he has lost his licence for demerit points it's actually a bit more serious than drive unlicenced - its drive whilst disqualified. there's alot of difference as drive disqualified can carry a term of imprisionment - unlicenced is just a fine, making a joke of it as some have done on this site does not set the right example to youngsters reading.
- Greg Kemp (posted 4/06/2009 8:01:44 PM)
Best wishes Andy, I hope it all works out OK. I agree, show them what you're made of at the Adelaide game.

what he did was wrong. but what's done is done, he's a bomber, a gun, let's give him a chance and support him.i would still love to see him in red and black.

driving without license or suspended license doesnt seem to impose harm to other motorist/people.on the other hand speeding drivers are dangerous wether they have license or not.
- mark manginsay (posted 4/06/2009 8:57:38 PM)
Lovett - no excuses. He should know better. The good news is that the club is supporting him but the onus is on him to lift his "game" when he is off the field.

you know i think that we place far to much pressure on footballers. yes they are ayhletes, yes they do get paid alot of money, yes kids do look up to them, but they are human too.they make mistakes too.in regurds to role models, the kids do have parents and its up to the parents to be role models.footballers can be role models in their football abilities only.its up to the parents to teach that to their kids.just keep goin andy.your a gun.
