Trade Talk - what are you hearing?

Trade week starts this Monday, 5th October and most talk looks set to revolve around Brendan Fevola.

While, 'Fev' will attract plenty of attention there are are many other interesting options being floated and we want to know what you are hearing and what you think? To generate discussion we have created Trade Talk.

The football community is expecting this to be one of the more active trade periods ahead of the Gold Coast and West Sydney joining the competition so there is plenty to talk about.

hear we go! Knights will be happy to be reunited with his best mate Chris T from Freo in the next few weeks,he should be worrying about getting L Ball, there are going to be alot of names getting flung round in the next few weeks, hot tip C.T from Freo to become a bomber,!
- mawby Ian (posted 2/10/2009 7:52:23 AM)
keep Lovett
- MARK JONES (posted 2/10/2009 8:28:02 AM)
im not hearing anything that i like much. how about we get some first round draft picks for people that are leaving (such as lovett)? never mind next year. it is the 3-5 years after that are more important realistically. although i have to admit shaun burgoyne looks good in blk&red...
- Abby Melancon (posted 2/10/2009 8:43:52 AM)
Havent heard anything, but given Brisbane want Lovett (and Lovett sadly wants out) we should ask for Brennan and a draft pick - imagine he, Ryder and Hille rotating through the ruck and up forward! And Brennan has that x-factor about him. Another midfielder would be nice - Ball? Just dont trade Jetta (heard his name thrown around), he's still a kid and once he realises the training effort he needs to put in he could be anything. Still not sure about Myers though - we should make a play for one of the West Coasts midfield kids...
- Neil Brown (posted 2/10/2009 9:39:14 AM)
must keep lovett, and must go for luke ball or burgoyne, preferably ball as he is a tough in and under player, which will be great for watson, he needs more like himself as we already have the runners !!!
- Luke Tuckett (posted 2/10/2009 9:39:43 AM)
Theres only two players i would be chasing in this years draft, either S Burgoyne, or L Ball, i would give the rest a miss.
- Joe Sakac (posted 2/10/2009 9:45:42 AM)
I agree Keep Lovett.
- Danny Namoni (posted 2/10/2009 9:49:06 AM)
Either get burgoyne or keep lovett. Do not get marcus drum or luke ball. Just get draft picks if it comes to that. And one quick question: why is it carlton seem able to get their hands on hot property like stevens, judd etc over the years and all the big moves involving us have been stinkers (eg merrett and wanganeen leaving). We all love the bombers but seems like none of the big names wanna join us
- Kieran Rimmer (posted 2/10/2009 9:55:21 AM)
Can't see Essendon doing too much next week. Hope we keep Jetta, rebuilt his confidence and support him. He was ok before his ANZAC day fumbles. If possible trade Lovett for a ball-getting centre. Protect our top draft pick. Save Fev for GC.
- Jeff Forster (posted 2/10/2009 10:04:26 AM)
i cannot see the big deal with burgoyne. he will want at least $500k and how will that make all the existing players feel. he is just a outside player and pretty soon they will all be running past me in the outer.
- Charlie Monforte (posted 2/10/2009 10:05:25 AM)
The problem has always been that the Blues are linked to the big end of town, thus more incentives are given on the side prob. I reckon that if Lovett wants to go, let him. I would rather have 22 committed players on the ground than 21.
- Greg Sorenson (posted 2/10/2009 10:08:03 AM)
Ball or Burgoyne, if we have to lose Lovett lets make sure we get good compensation for him, if its the Lions Brennan or Riscatelli and a draft pick at the least
- Marc Atkins (posted 2/10/2009 10:24:58 AM)
we want Lovett to stay but we wanna get Luke Ball or Shaun Burgoyne
- Michael Keating (posted 2/10/2009 10:25:51 AM)
Keep Lovett & get a tall fullforward.
- Kay Cox (posted 2/10/2009 10:27:21 AM)
We Need Fev Or Luke Ball
- Jamie Muscatel (posted 2/10/2009 10:37:38 AM)
good question kieran rimmer why dont they
- Brett Martin (posted 2/10/2009 10:43:09 AM)
YOU HAVE TO KEEP LOVETT! I MEAN HE IS LIKE AN ESSENDON ICON! MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Adam Woodcock (posted 2/10/2009 10:45:19 AM)
Kieran with KNIGHTS as coach who would want to join us??? Everone else in the football world knows he is a dud, and has turned this great club into a laughing stock!!! MYERS has to be traded should never have been our first round pick in the first place, just another big mistake from our SUPACOACH KNIGHTS????
- Ray Brough (posted 2/10/2009 10:45:29 AM)
we need a forward , a bloody good one !!!
- vicki rotheram (posted 2/10/2009 10:57:12 AM)
i agree with brennan. and would you people get the idea of keeping lovett out of your head. he WANTS out. can't do nothing. move on. L ball or L brennan. BURGOYNE IS GARBAGE!
- Andrew Fisher (posted 2/10/2009 11:04:48 AM)
think judd went to carlton more for the money and the job pratt was offering.Wouldnt mind a L Ball no burgoyne think his knee a bit dodgy or try and get early drasf picks.Diane
- Diane Trask (posted 2/10/2009 11:13:35 AM)
What I am hearing, What I think and What will happen may be 3 different things. This trade talk at the moment is all hot air. Lets discuss when it is all finished.
- Thomas Dougherty (posted 2/10/2009 11:14:45 AM)
Lovett is so very overrated, he has some flashes of brilliance but is so inconsistent, glad to see him going. Trade him and round 2 draft pick for Luke Ball. DO NOT go near Fevola that is a mistake, Brennan maybe, Burgoyne maybe. Jetta should be traded too he is no good, give Myers another year then see.
- Brent Biasin (posted 2/10/2009 11:35:27 AM)
Spoke to Lovett Wednesday night and he was very very definate he is out of here. Not great news but thankfully he had a top year this year so we can probably demand a bit more for him than this time last year. He was brutally honest so straight swap for Ball or Burgoyne would be a great result.
- Andrew Day (posted 2/10/2009 11:39:08 AM)
2nd round pick for hawks mark williams lovett and 4th rounder for michael rischitelli and a 2nd rounder 3rd rounder for matt maguire lovett and some fringe player like nash and jetta for ball
- Nick Holdsworth (posted 2/10/2009 11:45:42 AM)
Just letting everyone know Lovett is leaving because he wants to leave.. There is no way essendon will pay him the contract he wants..We should chase down Burgoyne first, then if not him, get Ball. Don't get Tarrant (Bigger mistake then Zantuck). Keep Jetta and chuck him in the deep end by playing him in the midfield, to replace Lovett. He has the speed and skill, he just needs the right mentor to work with him over the pre season. Also play Stanton similar to Hird's role (Half Forward Flank and every now and then in the midfield).
- Caleb Sutton (posted 2/10/2009 11:59:11 AM)
good one Thomas D,whats the heading say?
- mawby Ian (posted 2/10/2009 12:16:43 PM)
Just a short reminder Essendon, YOUTH POLICY…… Don’t worry about drafting older players from other clubs… Exchange Lovett for an early draft pick. I would be disappointed if we don’t continue to develop and recruit a young list..
- Darren Sammut (posted 2/10/2009 12:35:40 PM)
Be interesting to see if we have any real authority in the trades on offer. We don't seem to be able to attract a big name. We need another tall and possibly a good hard running player. We have to get a decent pick for Lovett.
- Terri Xuereb (posted 2/10/2009 12:36:21 PM)
Get real. At 27 Lovett is a 3rd round draft pick. 2nd at best. He is too inconsistent and not team oriented. My mail says Ball has groin problems. Always has, always will. Remember Prismal came as a 3rd round pick. Burgoyne will be finished in 3 years. Go for draft picks or talented young fringe players like Priz. Go Bombers, Go Knighter...we're on track for top 4 in two or 3 years
- thomas mollard (posted 2/10/2009 12:36:29 PM)
Trade the two brothers Slattery & Knightmare. Luke Ball for round two draft or some 3/4 way involving Lovett. Keep our first choice.
- Neville Brooker (posted 2/10/2009 12:46:46 PM)
Have a look at myers on youtube in the tac cup, before he was injured, the kid looked good he actually looked quick and was using the ball well. They wont trade him, he has had two years give him a go he had a bad pre season. Burgoyne doesnt want to go to essendon so dont bother. Try for ball and salopek, ball for his inside strength and salopek as he can hit a guy on the chest. Lovett is gone we need to accept that and get something good for him.
- Michael Bear (posted 2/10/2009 1:00:10 PM)
We should be looking at Luke Ball to help Jobe out. We don't need another Burgoyne type. I wouldn't mind Brennan in black and red. And Carlton get who they want because Visy "leverage their sponsorship" by paying 10 Carlton players outside the salary cap (incl. Judd $1m p.a.).
- Andrew Charlton (posted 2/10/2009 1:19:43 PM)
Vicki, we've got two really good tall forwards ... Paddy Ryder and Scott Gumbleton. With Hille back, Paddy resting forward would be awesome. Please may injuries let SG have a crack next year!!!
- Andrew Charlton (posted 2/10/2009 1:23:06 PM)
guys, Lovetts heart is no longer at Windy Hill as much as id love to see him stay. What about Leon Davis? Is he too old?
- David Lograsso (posted 2/10/2009 1:25:52 PM)
Since S.Lucas and M.Lloyd retired we really need a big forward. Say like Brendan Fevola or we get L Ball because he'd be good at taking the ball down to the 50.But I'd say "Fev" because we already got alot of people who can take the ball down. P.S leave Jetta alone, don't trade him.
- Augen Toma (posted 2/10/2009 1:27:47 PM)
why so much talk about essendon needing more midfielders? our clearances levels and inside 50 numbers this year were quite good. and that was without Hille. Why get luke Ball when we already have Welsh, Prismall, Lonergan, Watson, McVeigh who are all not overly quick. I think we need a good small defender to help out the likes of Henry Slattery and Courtney Dempsey. If Lovett is interested in Brisbane, what about Jed Adcock? Hard, tough, uncompromising. Good skills. Can rotate through midfiled. And is a Ballarat boy so maybe Victorian links? he'd be my pick
- Anthony Riding (posted 2/10/2009 1:29:38 PM)
We need Fev. without lloyd and Lucas who is going to kick the goals.
- meelan meelan (posted 2/10/2009 1:32:28 PM)
Burgoyne to Hawthorn, Mark Williams to Essendon and Lovett to ?????????
- Anthony Cesarello (posted 2/10/2009 1:37:23 PM)
Lovett has made the decision to go so there is little point talking about him staying. I will make the unpopular point that we should look at Fev. With Lloyd gone and Neagle needing ALOT (note the added emphasis!!) of work to get to superstar status, someone with Fev's goal kicking ability would be useful for three years. With Lovett going and Lloyd now gone, we need someone to kick the goals.
- Mark Skermer (posted 2/10/2009 1:37:33 PM)
WOW,Ray Brough, all the draft watchers who followed the players for most of their careers had Myers in the top 5 picks, BUT you knew he was no good & he is still only a kid, you should be a recruiting expert for any club but ours, Also maybe Carlton like to pay more under the table like Judds $1 mill with Vissy, & we had no choice with Wang. Port set him up with McDon franchaise
- Mark McLachlan (posted 2/10/2009 1:52:48 PM)
GET FEV BALL SHANE TUCK AND LEWIS JETTA IN THE DRAFT FOR OUR FIRST PICK. PS WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE THINK
- Cohlby Giblett (posted 2/10/2009 1:53:09 PM)
EFC does not need Fevola. He will be at Carlton next year anyway. All this who ha for publicity and pleasing hypocritical sponsors...
- Davor Stanic (posted 2/10/2009 1:55:51 PM)
Mark - my sentiments exactly. We need a big strong forward, who is also able to show our young guys how it's done over the coming years as we get closer and closer to that flag. Andrew Lovett has been a star for this team, and if he's decided he needs to move on then my best wishes go with him - enough with bagging him out already!
- Claire Petrie (posted 2/10/2009 1:55:54 PM)
Dont worry about Fev Gumbleton Neagle and Hurley are the future get another defender for when Fletcher goes. Premierships are made from defence
- Anthony Montalto (posted 2/10/2009 2:08:38 PM)
I hope Lovett doesnt leave the door open on his way out. Nothing more destabilising for team unity than a money hungry, self centered individual who always looks for the easy option and makes excuses. Watching the last 12 weeks of this year it was pathetic to see the way he played with the "sooks" on. Let's get players who want to die for the bomber jumper and do it for their teammates. Then success will come!
- Rick Rick (posted 2/10/2009 2:12:51 PM)
Ur all talking about fev coming to the dons. 1. Shows no respect to lloyd after the fact of youth policy 2. Fev is selfish and won't teach jay or gumby anything I think make a play for chris knights and unfortunatly give Nash (whom knights obviously hates) and either a 3rd round pick or a young guy like... Adkinson. I like the adcock for lovett idea. Great call! I think jetta needs a fair go, and if knights isn't going to give him a go in the midfield or running from back, then he needs a fair go at another club b4 knights totally distroys jettas career 2010 here we come
- Steve Colakidis (posted 2/10/2009 2:19:20 PM)
Lovett doesnt want to be a Don anymore we all just have to accept it and move on! Now if Ess are smart they will try to get Burgoyne, Ball and Fev!! We have the spot, space and im sure we have the cash!! Please do not get Mark Willaims and his gun shot! And lets make Watson Captain you can just tell how much he loves this club!! Stanton, McVeigh, McPhee, Hille,Laycock (if you still want it) and Negal you guys really need to step up next year! Gumby we need you more than ever its time to get it out!
- Sam Santo (posted 2/10/2009 2:20:18 PM)
Shaun Burgoyne would add some much needed class to the midfield, but at what price? Josh Kennedy from Hawthorn is considering his future, he'd be a good get and add some size and grunt to help out Jobe. I'm hearing Lovett to Brisbane for Rischitelli, which I could live with.
- Adrian Betts (posted 2/10/2009 2:22:36 PM)
To put simply what i think of fevola coming to essendon...if he comes, i will just about give up on essendon....he has had his chances and blown them. Lovett has done the same thing and knights is sending the right message by telling him he isnt wanted at essendon, if we get fev it is just a massive case of hypocrosy.
- christopher seaman (posted 2/10/2009 2:22:43 PM)
Wouldn't it be interesting if we get Fev? I wonder where he will be played? At FF or out on a flank to allow the younger guys to develop. It might be worth the punt just to see where Knights plays him ie destroy his career on a flank or play him where he belongs, but I don't think the club will allow that especially after reappointing knights so soon and it may just show what a mistake that was...
- Greg Kemp (posted 2/10/2009 2:29:02 PM)
GET SHAUN BURGOYNE! He is an absolute GUN when fully fit. The man changes matches and can play both midfield and up forward. Can't see how a straight swap for Lovett isn't on the cards. Port will lose him anyways, they may as well get compensation for him. Someone like a Luke Ball would also be perfect, win the hard ball and feed to quality users like Winderlich and Prismall.
- Matt Grima (posted 2/10/2009 2:32:55 PM)
i think that essendon should have a look at melbourne as a possible destination for lovett: lovett and pick 26 for pick 2, it's a possibility
- Terry Smith (posted 2/10/2009 2:33:45 PM)
I am a down to earth Essendon Fan for 30 years and I am concerned about the actual situation after the departure of Lucas and Loyd. It wii be unforgivable for a Cl;ub like Essendon to let the opportunity to get Brendan Fevola go under the bridge. Brendon is a good person, he is the best forward in the competition and, beside like everyone of us he has a problem. His biggest enemy is not the drink.... but the MEDIA!!! It is about time those scambegs live Brendan alone so he can reabilitate himself for the sake of his children, his wife and the ...lucky Club is going to contract him. Essendon hiearchy, wake up!!!!
- Angelo Frizzi (posted 2/10/2009 2:37:34 PM)
i think that the bombers has a good chance to pick up shuan burgoyne to play for them in 2010 because really we need him so we can win GO BOMBERS
- Dylan Slater (posted 2/10/2009 2:47:38 PM)
Fortunatley Essendon have ruled out getting Fev. If they had got him at Bomberland I would resign my membership until he had gone. Essendon need another quality midfielder but not Burgoyne. With Hill back and hopefully Gumby standing up we have a potentaily great spine with Pears, Hurley, Prismal/Watson Gumby and Neagle and with Paddy freed up (with Hill back) to go into any of those areas as well. I prefer to keep and gather more top 20 draft picks.
- Charles Taylor (posted 2/10/2009 2:48:24 PM)
Unfortunately, I see Lovett disappearing into the PSD and to Freo because he is after top dollar and isn't to fazed about which club he goes to. I don't see the need for us to be too adventurous during draft week as we have a good developing list with most areas covered. We should be looking at some good small forwards (in the mould of Steve Johnson, Porplyzia and Le Cras)and classy on-ballers, although neither fall off trees.
- Simon Munn (posted 2/10/2009 3:05:45 PM)
Anthony Riding - I agree with u. Keep our 1st round pick and get a staunch small defender, someone who knows how to leave their man, or can learn off Flech, Adcock if he's available seems likely. What ever we get for Lovett is fine 2nd round pick or a 3rd and a fringe player. Don't bother with Burgoyne, Ball, Fevola or Tarrent! Their don't fit with our timeframe.
- David Kuss (posted 2/10/2009 3:29:55 PM)
trade slattery for anything, as long as hes out of bomberland
- afradopilious frette (posted 2/10/2009 3:39:28 PM)
If we chase Chris Tarrant then Knights is a bigger fool than I thought he was; if we are to initiate any trade in regards to Lovett, Rischitelli should be in the mix.
- Paul Salerno (posted 2/10/2009 3:42:02 PM)
I don't think we need mids, certainly not a Burgoyne who has averaged 16 touches a game over his career, we get big Dave back next year which frees up Paddy to play an Adam Goodes type role, we're OK for forwards as well, I think we need another running defender, liked Anthony Ridings call on Jed Adcock, and Lovett does want to go to Brisbane.
- Richard Neudert (posted 2/10/2009 3:43:06 PM)
GET LUKE BALL!
- Daniel Lewis (posted 2/10/2009 3:47:24 PM)
I can't believe these comments, we want Ball, Burgoyne? With Prismall confident next year, Watson, Loner, Winder, stant, hock, welsh, reimers will dev. into a midfielder. Our stocks aren't bad, WE need to kick goals, our forward structure crumbles! sadly, we do need a FF like Fev. Neagle has all the ability and skills but comes up wanting... All we have is monfries as a reliable lead-up forward and taking marks 50-70 out leaves a big hole!!!
- David Colman (posted 2/10/2009 3:56:49 PM)
Chase David Armitage from the Saits! Stuff Ball he is to slow. Armitage will come cheaply and is a very good tough player. Get Ristcatelli for Lovett. Have a good look at stokes from Geelong as well.
- Julius Fisher (posted 2/10/2009 4:14:23 PM)
Lovett is gone! For all we did for him and the opportunities we gave him if he wants to leave -let him go. He will be crying in 3 years when we hold up the premiership cup! I agree with some previous fans -what is wrong with Essendon? We dont have pull anymore - for one of the big 4 clubs noone wants to come to us - we couldnt even nab Davey from ghastly, cant win a game, bottom of the ladder Melbourne!!! Go for Fev - are we crazy?!! - premiership right around the corner if we had him up forward with our centre and backline!!!
- jennifer stepien (posted 2/10/2009 4:23:10 PM)
we need brendan fevola and luke ball..
- gemma chiodo (posted 2/10/2009 4:38:05 PM)
Dont look at Luke Balls GF effort but the rest of his ordinary season. Burgoyne & Tarrant are overrated, Lovett is leaving for $$$, Fev will not happen. I think Maguire wil be a reasonable pick up as tall defender, keep Myers but Jetta worries me. Nash didnt get a go because of Slattery but Nash is better.get Brennan
- Peter McMahon (posted 2/10/2009 4:40:45 PM)
Keep Myers and Jetta (they have not even been given a chance). Lovett for Kennedy (from the hawks)and a 2nd round pick (from the hawks). I even like the idea of picking up Armitage. Stick with the young guys not getting a chance these days. It would be great for the Dons to also chase Everitt. He will be a superstar and is disgruntled at the moment. I would also chase Jettas cousin in the draft. I think he is worth the punt. Plus both Jettas might combine for something special. We missed Rioli though, haven't played Myers but missed Rioli. Probably did him a favour anyway!!
- Hardip Bassi (posted 2/10/2009 4:41:43 PM)
Slattery is clearly a champion - top 10 in the Crichton - probably win it next year.
- Jeff Forster (posted 2/10/2009 4:46:11 PM)
forget ball, burgoyne, etc. go for nicky del
- bob McDiarmid (posted 2/10/2009 4:50:19 PM)
lets not chase burgoyne ! instead go for luke ball an in and under player to help watson, instead of chasign a player that will turn 28 and has a dodgey knee. if we cant get him chase matt macguire (sorry spelling) or marcus drum as a replacement for fletcher, and this will allow hurley to play a permanent role in the forward line. All this non-sense about getting fev wont help because he will turn 29 soon. ps: i'd love mark williams from da hawks what you guys think ?
- ibby bachar (posted 2/10/2009 4:51:58 PM)
Thankfully we won't, nor should we even contemplate Fev. Watch his second and third rebound efforts if in doubt! Would love to see Brennan or Rischitelli, and good point re Geelong players. They will be struggling to keep all their stars, and Pris has been a good pickup. Keep Jetta too, the kid is a great package and just needs some self-belief. Trade Slattery, and delist Williams and possibly Magin.
- Graeme Blore (posted 2/10/2009 4:56:38 PM)
Getting really sick of reading 'youth policy' off some of you people. Our plan of being a dominant side in 3-5 years began when Knighta started. The last 2 years have been about youth. Its now time to be recruiting those 25yo players to add to what we have so our aim of becoming a strong team in knighta's 3rd-4th year becomes a reality.
- John Erben (posted 2/10/2009 5:02:58 PM)
Fev, Lake and a top midfielder is what we need. Neagle can earn his spot if he is good enough. Imagine a backline of Fletcher, Pears, Lake, and half back Atkinson, Hurley, Dempsey. Then a top midfielder to help Jobe get the ball to Fev. And get off Knighter's back. He got us to the top 8 in his second year. Where's the problem? We will always love Sheeds, but he was past his use-by date.
- Graham Dyer (posted 2/10/2009 5:03:43 PM)
Who is the hell is John Williams, and why is he on the list? Get rid of henry slattery, quinn nash and Laycock! Pick up Luke Ball and Brennan from Brisbane! The End!
- David Milana (posted 2/10/2009 5:06:08 PM)
Given the Crows final, why not trade Hille, Ryder, Bellchambers and Laycock for some more small running players??
- Geoff Cliff (posted 2/10/2009 5:08:02 PM)
Trade Jeff Forster and Slattery. Trade all those who want Fev to Carlton. Trade our faceless Board to a Political party. Let us members run the club. Anarchy Rules at Essendon.
- Neville Brooker (posted 2/10/2009 5:12:39 PM)
Jeff Forster I can only hope your comment re Slattery was sarcasm. Slattery isn't in Essendon's best 25!!
- Geoff Cliff (posted 2/10/2009 5:13:14 PM)
slattery needs to go he is the most indecisive player i have ever seen would be trading him and his brother to port for burgoyne and maybe pick up maguire in pre season draft if he is still there when it gets to our pick
- ANTHONY BROWN (posted 2/10/2009 5:16:15 PM)
Ball is injured so is Burgoyne a big punt to take either of them, Fev is injured mentally (lol) so definate no to him, go for youth bombers, we are looking down the track there are no quick fixes.
- Gwenda Warfe (posted 2/10/2009 5:19:22 PM)
Ball is too slow. I agree with comments about myers(given a good pre season and injury free , we will see a huge difference). Ray Brough you are a flea. Need a quality midfielder preferably not Burgoyne. Someone who can hurt the opposition with ball usage.
- sheree boff (posted 2/10/2009 5:21:27 PM)
i think we should be going for a ruck, we really only have hille, paddy is great but imagine him at chb or chf resting with hille, cause laycock is a dud and belchambers is just learning the game, if anything happens to hille we will be seeing a repeat of 2009, next year has to be top six gooooo bombersssssss
- Paul Pascuzzi (posted 2/10/2009 5:37:37 PM)
Word is Freo wants lovett for nothing, they have pick 3 in the pre season draft and the lions are interested to trade. Bombers must get something for lovett, therefore Freo must be taken out of the equation, Rischitelli would be a good pick up, but I can't understand why he would be up for trade.
- Gerard Smith (posted 2/10/2009 5:37:39 PM)
forget about all these players ie. Fev,Burgoyne,Ball all getting to old stay with youth we have two good players that can play full forward Ryder and Hurley with Neagle and Gumbleton in the making. we need young strong in and under players to help Jobe.
- Neil Missen (posted 2/10/2009 5:39:44 PM)
to eeryone who keeps baggin knights, why dont you put up some other options to replace him?? i wouldnt worry about trading for burgoyne or ball. why cant monfries go into the midfield to help jobe hes got the big body to do that!!! cant see brennan leaving the lions although i love watching him play. DONT GET ANYONE FROM FREO, we send players to freo not receive them!
- Travis Cusack (posted 2/10/2009 5:44:44 PM)
Please just keep Lovett!!

Why all this talk about Fevola? If we needed a(n ageing)key position forward would we not have convinced Lloyd to play another year or two longer?
- Kim Paterson (posted 2/10/2009 6:19:01 PM)
Whilst Burgoyne has class, Jobe needs someone to lighten his workload around the ball. If EFC doesn't have 100% faith in Sam Lonergans progress, then they should chase Luke Ball. With Lloyd and Lucas retired, maybe the club should look at Taylor Walker from Adelaide or Jared Brennan.
- Glenn Smooker (posted 2/10/2009 6:26:11 PM)
i believe lovett should stay and we need a forword cos lloyd and scotty has left so get fev
- jessica flood (posted 2/10/2009 6:27:19 PM)
Do people not realise lovett wants to leave and will go in the pre-season draft if we dont trade him? forget about lovett, and forget about burgoyne, he doesn't want to be a bomber so let him go elsewhere.
- Matthew Gilroy-Scott (posted 2/10/2009 6:57:24 PM)
THANK GOD LOVETT IS GOING WE NEED SOMEONE TO PLAY 110% 22 GAMES NOT 85% FOR 12 GAMES GO HARD FOR BURGOYNE SWAP LOVETT JAY NASH AND $300.000 NO LUCAS AND LLOYD SO WE HAVE MONEY
- Joe Muscara (posted 2/10/2009 7:20:22 PM)
All very interesting! Our defence is OK. Our midfield is OK, with the return of Hille. He maybe a ruck, but he plays small & tough like a midfielder. With the loss of Lloyd & Lucas;thats a worry! We are going to rely on two kids;Neagle and Gumbleton to stand up. Too much to ask. Trade Lovett, for Brennan if possible; trade Laycock for Armitage. Saints might be interested in a younger ruckman! Brennan's been played everywhere, but what if he played full forward? Mercurial, hard to match up, still young, and may be a tempting target for our midfielders to aim at. What are your thoughts?
- Colyn Beer (posted 2/10/2009 7:26:37 PM)
We need Burgoyne - he is all class - great clearance player - does not waste a disposal - his knee is ok.These opportunities do not come along often .Lets get all the indigenous guys to contact him and tell him he will love it being a bomber. We must be creative and persistant!
- timothy Stewart (posted 2/10/2009 7:40:15 PM)
Would really like to see Brett Peake on our list.
- neil Sinclair (posted 2/10/2009 7:51:57 PM)
Forget Fevola, good player he might be (to a point, doesn't do anything after the first option) - how long has he got left in footy and god forbid his off field antics.
- Jennifer Mackie (posted 2/10/2009 7:52:01 PM)
Agree with Darren Sammut 110% . Youth policy and draft picks . It took Bomber Thompson ten years to build Geelong. It seems everyone is looking for the quick fix. Let Lovett go for a draft pick and keep the rest. Let's get some stability to the list and give the kids a chance
- Nathan Cuff (posted 2/10/2009 8:32:41 PM)
trade slattery and lovett to unconsistant for my liking one good game in every eight get burgoyne, ball or josh drummond
- cameron stebbeings (posted 2/10/2009 8:55:06 PM)
I'm surprised no-one has thrown up the name B Lake from the Bulldogs.....still hasn't signed with them for next year, and would be a great pick-up with Fletch coming towards the end of his wonderful career, and Hurley looking likely to be a gun forward.
- Stuart Moar (posted 2/10/2009 9:15:40 PM)
NIGHTS .I dont care who u get BUT just get it RIGHT from the club not ur self
- Mario Borg (posted 2/10/2009 9:17:09 PM)
THE FOLLOWING SHOULD BE TRADED OR DELISTED... DYSON, GUMBLETON, MCVEIGH, LAYCOCK, NEAGLE, ATKINSON. NEVER WILL THEY PLAY IN A PREMIERSHIP.
- rob davies (posted 2/10/2009 9:26:15 PM)
Brennan or Riscatelli. Sheeds was keen on the latter and I think he is an area local. Either could work well in the midfield and Brennan could play deep forward, too. Luke Ball sounds good but is he carrying something?? Also, am I wrong to think we have a lot of good or promising talls? Hands off Myers. Forget Fevola & Burgoyne. More Jettas, please. Whoever we let go or get, the decision has to make sense 3-5 yrs from NOW. Well done, List, for not mentioning Laycock (oops!).
- Kris Bayne (posted 2/10/2009 9:40:45 PM)
Alot of people here are talking alot of rubbish, we wont be even looking at fev. but what i can say is that ive been told by a close source that jed adcock is keen to move to windy hill his from victoria and his sister works for the club.
- Anthony Zeniou (posted 2/10/2009 9:53:18 PM)
Tarrant, what????Thats not going to happen, where are u ppeople gatting your info from????Ess have always been keen on Rischetelli. He's a Keilor boy.And is a very good friend of Garry O'Donnell, thats what is being worked on at Bris first up.And Brennan and Adcock would also be in high consideration if a trade goes thru to Bris for Lovett.Nice try Mark Harvey at trying to come in thru the back door and stuff us up with Lovett.Won't work though.HA,HA!
- Mark Elze (posted 2/10/2009 10:26:57 PM)
everyone, get off knights back! he is a bloody good coach and has a clear vision for where he wants this club to go. i believe in his ability and in our players. he has turned essendon from a team who finished 15th, to a team that finished 8th next year, and improvement is inevitable.
- James Brown (posted 2/10/2009 10:27:08 PM)
JUST GET SOMETHING FOR LOVETT, its got 2 b better then his weak attitude. SEAN BURGOYNE would b wonderful replacement DONT NEED KEY POSITION PLAYERS!
- Shannon Hudson (posted 2/10/2009 10:42:52 PM)
My view is that the club should look to recruit players under 25 to align with the decision to extend Matthew Knights contract. Therefore I would consider the following: Drum, Rischitelli, Everitt, Sherman, Salopek, Knights, McKinley, Ryan Murphy and Jarrad McVeigh.
- Stefano Boscaglia (posted 2/10/2009 11:33:38 PM)
Look at Brennan and second pick for Lovett. However in my opinion stick with youth; get as many high draft picks as possible. Look at Lewis Jetta; I've heard good things. Don't need all these old undisciplined injured farts. Good luck - Go bombers!
- Laz Zaekis (posted 2/10/2009 11:44:45 PM)
In general, I am a strong supporter of the Essendon coaching staff. My faith in them was given a severe jolt when I saw that Slattery came tenth in the Crichton Medal. This represented about one vote for every disposal he got, or was it one vote for every free kick he gave away and clanger he made? Or perhaps he got votes for baby sitting an assistant coach's children. Unfortunately, he cannot be put up for trade. What club in its right mind would take him?
- Ian Moore (posted 3/10/2009 1:11:36 AM)
See what we can get for Slattery and Nash.
- Richard Purcell (posted 3/10/2009 8:13:41 AM)
Forget Lovett he wants out and is overrated. Chuck a tag on him and he wont be seen. Get Rischittelli (EFC has been interested in him for 4 years being a Keilor boy) and David Armiatge will be a massive scalp. Pick 9 whos hard at it with good skill. Joel Mac Donald also. Keep Myers and promote Tyson Slattery from round 1. This kid can play. Trade Jetta and Nash we can gain something for them.
- Glenn Farrugia (posted 3/10/2009 9:05:44 AM)
just accept that lovett is gone & maybe some 3 way some 3 way deal can be worked out with port/brisy to get burgs to ess
- David Zich (posted 3/10/2009 9:28:59 AM)
WE NEED GUN FULL FORWARD, FEV IS THE BEST AT THE MMENT WE COULD USE HIM FOR 3-4 YRS, GUMBLETON/NEAGLE DO NOT LOOK LIKE THEY WILL MAKE THE CUT.IF FEV CAN PULL HIS HEAD IN STAY OFF THE FOOTY SHOW AND DRINKING THROUGHOUT THE YEAR HE WILL BE A GOOD REPLACEMENT FOR LLOYD/LUCAS. ESSENDON BOARD SHOULD REALLY CONSIDER THIS !! ALSO TOP LINE MIDFIELDER WITH SKILL AND PACE.
- Robert Radulovich (posted 3/10/2009 11:09:08 AM)
MARK McLACHLAN I see you have posted another of your NO football knowledge posts again!!!! In regards to MYERS yes he is only a kid, but so is TATE PEARS, CALE HOOKER,( who were drafted AFTER MYERS ) MICHAEL HURLEY and DAVID ZAHARAKIS, so where does MYERS rate with these kids??? A long way behind I would suggest, at best he will only be a vfl player. IT would be very interesting how all the TOP DRAFT( WATCHERS?? ) rate him now??? I bet HAWTHORN and FREMANTLE were glad we got him and not RIOLI And PALMER???
- Ray Brough (posted 3/10/2009 11:19:53 AM)
TRADE ALL DEAD WOOD WE ARE CARRYING ON OUR LIST THAT WILL NEVER BE PART OF NEXT PREMIERSHIP TILT.AND TRADE HARD. LAYCOCK,SLATTERY,JETTA,NASH,QUINN,SKIPWORTH
- Robert Radulovich (posted 3/10/2009 11:30:35 AM)
Jeez some of you are harsh on henry slattery. Would much prefer him than jay nash. Nash has good skills by foot but I dont rate the defensive side of his game. I don't see how getting maguire is a good idea. We already have Hooker, Pears, Fletcher and Hurley playing back there. God forbid, Gumbleton starts stringing games together and with Hille and Laycock fit next year, how many key position players do we need? Leroy Jetta was stiff to miss out to Quinn in the finals, but ive seen nothing from him to suggest he's worth hanging onto.
- Nick Linehan (posted 3/10/2009 11:52:43 AM)
Fev is a joke. We get killed in rebounds now imagine if we had someone who does not chase or does when he feels like it. We are two years from being contender, Burgoyne will be older and just starting to slow down, use pick to replace Lovett with young fast midfielder, if Gumby doesn't get his health right we will be down a main position player. Do not give away any trades to try and sure up for next year to sacrifice the next two years. Do without anyone who does not want to be with us.
- Ron Mercer (posted 3/10/2009 12:18:24 PM)
MUST KEEP ANDY LOVETT. just put up with him, he is a great player and much needed for essendons running game. don't get this Burgoyne character.
- andy andy (posted 3/10/2009 12:42:43 PM)
WE DONT WANT BURGOYNE HE IS A CRAB BALL AND FEV ARE BETTER. DONT GIVE UP OUR #10 PICK. GET AARON BLACK OR LEWIS JETTA WITH IT. PS WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE THINK REPLY PLZ

Jennifer Stepien the reason no one wants to commit to the bombers anymore is that we have by far the worst coach in the afl. Even our heroic captain couldn't stand it any longer. We are a long way off finals as proved in our finals disgrace. Watch our membership slide as our on field disasters increase with this second rate coach/list. Most players strive to win a flag and thats just not going to happen under coach knights....

- Andy Toma (posted 3/10/2009 3:54:02 PM)
burgoyne, maguire they are the boys we want one for back and one for centre. We go to get 1 of these boys and don't give lovett to anyone but siants and port power so we can get one of them
- Andrew Hochegger (posted 3/10/2009 4:13:57 PM)
keep lovett!!! trade hille, gumbleton and use ryder as our ruckman and use bellchambers to give ryder a rest
- Joshua Priest (posted 3/10/2009 4:48:08 PM)
get tarrant in red and black and after 30 years of being a member. Count me out
- Lucy Camilleri (posted 3/10/2009 5:05:28 PM)
We could do worse than going after J. McVeigh - something I felt we should have done two or three years ago. Burgoyne has dodgy knees, Ball has a dodgy groin so steer clear of those guys. Fev could be useful in the short term, but if he goes to Brisbane, why not try for a Bradshaw in a deal for Lovett?
- Brad Sparkes (posted 3/10/2009 5:34:26 PM)
Fev waste of time, would burn my membership if we got him, be the biggest disrespect to OUR CLUB CHAMPION LLOYD. Stop staying keep LOvett, he has no club loaylty and is just chasing the $$$. Lot of people mentioning Brennan but I have yet to hear his name being brought up (if anyone knows fill us in). Maguire for cheap 3rd round pick, word is Lovett and Pick 10 for Burgoyne, remember his skill and speed, other clubs still think very highly of him. I think Lovett for Rischitelli would be fair. Maybe Joel Macdonald as a smaler defender??
- Andrew Pritchard (posted 3/10/2009 5:48:02 PM)
We don't need a new key forward, thats the only positive of Matthew Lloyd and Scott Lucas retiring,it gives a youngster of Essendon the opportunity to gain some experience in the forward line, which could lead them onto being our next Coleman medalist.
- luke brooks (posted 3/10/2009 5:49:16 PM)
Burgoyne would be a nice grab but at his price i am not sure its the right idea, he only has a few years left in him. Keep Jetta and put him in lovett's midfield place. Luke Ball might be an ok choice, im not really sure though
- ben baschiera (posted 3/10/2009 5:55:14 PM)
Spangher from the WC is young and talented... I don't think that Lovett for him would be such a bad trade. Time would tell. Burgoyne reminds me a bit of J Johnson... All Australian and a champ but went downhill after 27 due to injuries.
- Matthew McPherson (posted 3/10/2009 6:00:29 PM)
knighta pull your head out! Lovett should be a bomber along side jobe and paddy he is one of our best and talented player we need his speed and silky skills, look at fev and dont even worry about burgoin he is no where as good as lovett!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
- ROBERT SCHREUDERS (posted 3/10/2009 6:15:32 PM)
If it's true that Lovett wants to go to Brisvegas then J MacDonald would be a nice swap and as long as we don't try to get Ball then I'd be pretty happy.Maybe next year Stants will pull his finger out and realize how good he really could be.Go Bombers!!!
- VIC M (posted 3/10/2009 6:21:49 PM)
ohhh and PLEASE don't go after the shotgunner Mark Williams....PLEASE.It's bad enough watching Franklin love himself on the big screen.
- VIC M (posted 3/10/2009 6:26:13 PM)
If Jetta and Myers are homesick fair enough. Jobe needs help getting the contested ball and clearances so get Luke Ball. Another small forward/midfielder would be great like Matty Stokes or Mark Williams. Geelong have showed balanced attack is the key. Get 30 goals a season from Hurley, Ryder, Monfries, Neagle/Gumbleton and Stokes/Williams and we are in the hunt.
- Brent May (posted 3/10/2009 8:09:53 PM)
swap lovett for joel macdonald, move dempsey into lovetts role in the middle/forward, play 2 full forwards[gumbi and hille] next to each other and kick it long and high whenever inside 80m,
- daniel gregg (posted 3/10/2009 9:34:04 PM)
I like the kennedy kid (from hawks) also rischitelli - anything we can get for Lovett is a bonus but dont expect too much guys...I think most know his best footy is behind him. I agree in giving jetta and myers more opportunity and no quick fixes (stick to youth policy) our timeframe is 2012 - Knights next renewal after a prelim! GO DONS
- steve christensen (posted 3/10/2009 9:49:51 PM)
what about neon leon davis, he wants out of collingwood - do a sheedy swap lovett for Davis, both good quick players '' everybody wins, brennen would be a nice pick up , but he's very incosistant. will play a blinder 1 week with the ball on the string -next won;t even get a touch for next 2-3 weeks if we get him make sure he becomes a FULLY committed player....
- Darren Pigott (posted 4/10/2009 12:21:13 AM)
trade knights back to richmond and pick up hardwick . what a great deal that would be .. sheedy would have made that work'easy.
- Darren Pigott (posted 4/10/2009 12:27:41 AM)
Apparently Taylor Walker from the crows is in the mix to be traded why has there been no talk about him yet? He is a gun forward, he's young and has a small amount of experience. Better than Burgoyne who is always injured, fev or any other old reject from another team! Sad to see Lovett go but some early picks could get us some players who will be superstars in years to come!
- Ryan Smith (posted 4/10/2009 5:16:28 AM)
Get rid of anyone who does not want to be at Essendon - or who won't put in. Get anyone who wants to be there. If none of these exist - do nothing.

If we are going to trade any players they should be traded for draft picks only.
- Dominic Lauricella (posted 4/10/2009 11:10:20 AM)
Just read on the AFL website and according to the article published there, Jay Nash, in addition to Lovett, are up for trade. Brisbane and Fremantle are clubs interested, while Port appears, so the writer of the article says, to be headed for Port Adelaide. Also, Port and Hawthorn have hit some "roadblocks" in their negotiations to trade Burgoin to Hawthorn, and so, we're in with a shot apparently, as are the Demons, who have the first pick in the preseason draft. Should be an interesting week, anyway.
- Maranatha Sao-Mafiti (posted 4/10/2009 12:32:03 PM)
Trade lovett to the lions for their first round pick. Trade that pick and Nash to port for Burgoyne and chuck in Jetta for free.
- Matt Hobbs (posted 4/10/2009 12:35:44 PM)
trade lovett for ball or kennedy, but thats it. every other player on the list has time to develop. jetta is improving and with gumbleton back in there is no way we should get Fevola. rischitelli wouldn't be a failure either
- vince newton (posted 4/10/2009 1:05:50 PM)
Lovetts gone, h
- Christopher D'Alessandro (posted 4/10/2009 1:14:29 PM)
i really think more midfielders is the last thing we need. we need another forward and small defender. like the lovett for adcock idea. think there is a bit of potential at freo to pick from, they have a few up and comers.
- Darren Short (posted 4/10/2009 1:54:06 PM)
graeme blore agree with everything you say except slattery,i think we should keep him.He doesnt get the possesions but thats not why he is there.Totally agree with you with jetta, give him enough game time, build his confidence up and I reckon he will be a great player.Cannot believe we have some people who want us to get fev,if judd cannot handle him who do you think can.kouta said he is 28 enough is enough the way he spoke to his captain its just not on,some people want him in our greay club,CRAZY.Diane

- tom rieniets (posted 4/10/2009 4:38:39 PM)
we should defeanetly get ball because there where games this year when watson was getting tagged and none of the midfeilders were helping out, another thing go easy on myers he was showing good signs in 2008 until he got injured then he had a bad pre season remember he is a young and developing midfeilder and we hav to be patient with him
- Thomas Brown (posted 4/10/2009 4:40:15 PM)

A.F.L footballers do not reach their peek of powers till they are in the 24-25 year bracket all this talk of getting rid of jetta and houli is probably from people who havent even played the game b4. so come essendon supporters be patient and watch the reards when our core group is 24-25 year olds!!!

Dont give up first 2 draft picks no matter who is on the table, and get something decent for lovett, wouldnt mind luke ball in the team, is still young and i havent seen him play a bad final, burgoyne not worth what is being asked, have him hawthorn, stick with youth and trade no one while we're young, everyone bagging h slattery, he's only 24 and has heart, its mcveigh and mcphee under pressure in my book
- Ben Chan (posted 5/10/2009 4:12:56 AM)
If we do trade go for Rischitelli, he looks good and Brennan (as backup to Hille). We need some proven big men not hopefuls who have yet to virtually play no time
- Pamela Norris (posted 5/10/2009 9:26:16 AM)
Mash may be headed to the Power and Lovett to either the Lions or Freo, but the second of these two will probably be the only one to get done this week. Stick with the youth policy, Bombers, and don't pick up players from other teams, even if Burgoin looks like a really good prospect. It's always been the Essendon way, more often than not, to develop our own and not poach from opposition teams.
- Maranatha Sao-Mafiti (posted 5/10/2009 10:38:21 AM)
We have to take what ever we can get for Lovett or we might get nothing & it WON'T be Knights fault as Freemantle have offered him the best DOLLARS which Melb. won't meet & pick him @ No.2 draft pick for absolutely nothing, Burg might be a bit old for the $ he is asking & MaGuire not has not played much for 2 years due to injury, both big risks
- Mark McLachlan (posted 5/10/2009 11:11:13 AM)
I understand that Port wants something big for Burgoyne and Essendon has eased off getting Burgoyne. This is an ideal 3 team trade that should make all 3 teams happy. Lovett, Nash and either our 2nd or 3rd rounder to Port. Burgoyne and a late rounder to St Kilda and Ball and about a 4th round to Essendon.
- Leigh Riddles (posted 5/10/2009 11:57:54 AM)
Why are people still wanting to keep Lovett? He wants a new club, a fresh start. Burgoyne wants to go to Hawthorn, and no one can afford Fev. I'd love to keep Lovett too, but it wont happen.
- Matt Pocock (posted 5/10/2009 12:37:06 PM)
if hawthorn cannot satisfy port then essendon should chase burgoyne with lovett and nash as trades port stills gets the class of lovett. what eles do they want burgoyne he aint no ablett or judd then that would be a different storie.we need to get a good quality forward why not fev. keep him off the drink just remember how good he is on the feild when he!s inform.that joel mCdonald from the lions would be handy as well.
- leigh hall (posted 5/10/2009 2:12:21 PM)
Daniel Harris (Nth), Luke Ball (Stk) and Josh Kennedy would be good because they are all in and under players
- tom rieniets (posted 5/10/2009 5:15:01 PM)
Get rid of Laycock for Josh Kennedy coz they need a ruckman and we need a tough midfielder
- tom rieniets (posted 5/10/2009 5:19:21 PM)
