Two Bombers make their mark

The post-season break usually sees the Essendon players make the most of the opportunity to head overseas together to bond and refresh after a gruelling season.

Bomber buddies Tayte Pears and Tom Bellchambers took that bonding one step further this year, returning from Thailand recently with a permanent reminder of each other.

“Tayte Pears and I thought it would be funny if we each got a tattoo while we were in Thailand,” Bellchambers told Bomber.tv.

“I got a tattoo of a pear on my foot and Tayte got a tattoo of a bell on his foot. We thought it was rather funny at the time.”

Despite there being more than three weeks until pre-season officially kicks off, Bellchambers was at Windy Hill today getting some practice in with former Essendon player Courtney Johns.

“I’m just trying to get myself fit with a few of the boys which is good,” Bellchambers said.

“Today we did some boxing followed by a kick on the oval.“

A knee injury to David Hille this season provided the 201cm-Tasmanian a chance to shine on the big stage, playing six senior games and averaging nine hit-outs.

Bellchambers admits he relished the opportunity to mix it with the league’s best and hopes to use the pre-season to best prepare himself for another taste of senior football.

“At the moment I’m just focusing on getting through the pre-season unscathed and then I’ll take it week by week from there,” he said.

“Playing in round one is the ultimate goal at the moment but there is obviously a long way to go before then.”

In the meantime, the 20-year-old is calling on the experience of former Essendon great Simon Madden and retired Bomber hardman Adam Ramanauskas for advice.

“Simon has been really great with providing advice in the ruckwork for me this season,” Bellchambers said.

“My manager Adam Ramanauskas has also helped me a lot. He has tried to set a few goals for me about where I need to be to get myself ready for round one.”

After 2 successful years with their 2nd round draft pick (Pears & Zaharakis), EFC has gone even better by trading their way to THREE 2nd round selections! If the trend continues this year it's enough to make the mind boggle!! So how is the draft looking right now? Without mentioning names the top 10 may read: 1.JT 2.TS 3.DM 4.AM 5.BC 6.GR 7.LJ/KL 8.LT 9.JB 10.?? There is no way I will fill the gap for P10. You never know who's watching!!! Cheers

Liked your one-liner GeoffC. on HH. Must confess I had a hearty laugh on imagining escaping tackles. Maybe the umpire could pay a free kick for holding the man who wasn't there! Cheers

Done a bit a work there Martin, interesting.Lets see how close you get with your predictions.Sorry no prize though for being right.Diane

Pick 10.Jake Melksham (Calder Cannons)to Essendon Martin would be my pick.No hesitatation.Club should take Daniel Harris in the Pre-season draft to give Jobe some help in the centre.

Hope the guys put more thought into their football than they do with permanently marking their bodies.

Has the once mighty essendon fc gone into damage control. Or is it that the overwhelming member backlash towards our coach starting to take hold. You can sensor our voices all you wish BUT it will not make knights a good coach
- steve rendevski (posted 20/10/2009 11:48:07 PM)
I agree with Francis.....gettting tatts like that screams young guys who have no idea about the real world. It just sounds stupid no matter what way you read it!

Martin Gol, pretty much agree with your top 9 although surprised Butcher slipped so far. My next 5 in order are Stevens (best inside mid but only if OP ok), Talia (bit like Hird), Melksham (maybe should be B4 Stevens as plays well under pressure), Gysberts & Sheppard (both to become tough inside mids). Good thread.

David, there has been an application error on the website that we are currently looking into. We hope to have all comments back online soon. Thanks.

Good work Martin, but it's still a raffle, look @ all the experts who follow the kids from 16 year olds to draft time, sometimes even some standout u18's don't make the next step, have a look @ '03 draft & see how many of top 20 r still playing, good effort mate, I will keep y eye on your selections, cheers

Essendon Insider - please don't bring back old documents. I don't want to be reminded of what I once said - you're not my wife.

steve rendevski, get a life, prophet of do

Oh for goodness sakes the fun police, they are LITTLE tatts on the foot not on their foreheads.Dont think they will weigh them down as to stop them from training or playing to their potiential. To say they have no idea of the real world, your joking right.Diane

No backlash towards our coach.Steve what happened to your predictions at start of season and throughout. Will get wooden spoon, richmond to end up higher than essendon.Sounds like we did 50% better than you predicted.Might need to go in a different line of work, predicting the future is not your best asset. We all should take what you say with a grain of salt.Diane
- Diane Trask (posted 21/10/2009 12:44:58 PM)
Overwhelming member backlash Steve? I'm a member too and I have no problem with Knights and I am not seeing anything "overwhelming" on here, just the same names offering the same views each time.

great to see and hear that Rama is still invoved with the club and players.Who says they dont stay or come back.Diane

Bring on the Draft so we can have something to talk about. I'm actually getting tired of kicking Knightmare and its a long time until February 2010. So the Draft will prove a slight distraction.

Positive and constructive comments. Well done Diane, MarkE, Jeff and MarkMcL in response to national draft. Definitely agree 100% on JM for P10 but close competition from KL & BS from EF(Sharks). Still 5 weeks out from main event so it's possible we can all change our minds to some degree. In my analysis I tend to match-up players with clubs. Think JB slides a little due to adverse press on his kicking accuracy. West Coast concerns me with picks 22&23. However, do back EFC list management to deliver the goods with 1 excellent and 3 very good selections. Cheers
- Martin Gol (posted 21/10/2009 5:38:20 PM)
I second that.Diane
- Diane Trask (posted 21/10/2009 5:57:49 PM)
I am also a member and have no problems with the coaching staff.I liked sheedy when he was coach I like how knights is going, but above it all I love the Essendon football club

Good to hear both Pears and bellchambers this year and lets hope another big year in 2010 Go Bombers

Have put in a few times the site to go too that has sparked the posts on draftees but unfortunately cannot name site.Take a guess,it will help us with who they are and when they might go.Trying to write post without puting name in.Happy Drafting.Diane
- Diane Trask (posted 22/10/2009 9:24:34 AM)
You make an interesting point Mark McL. regarding 03draft. Made the opportunity for quick assessment and found 12/20 still play, some have changed clubs, and only another 12 (approx.) from the remainder of that draft still in the system. Re 16-18yo, list managements have a huge task in making their assessments. The intriguing part is they all see it differently! Suggest this years draft will have much more depth at the top-end. So rapt Dons have 4/33 picks in the last uncompromised draft before GC/GWS. Cheers
- Martin Gol (posted 22/10/2009 3:53:20 PM)
after looking at your picks martin and the draftees we do have a good chance of getting a good young kid, even with our next couple of picks.Think we have a good chance of a melksham tapscott taylor or jetta.Just depends on what other teams need as well. There are so many good kids in the top10 even top 20.Cant wait.Diane
- Diane Trask (posted 22/10/2009 4:24:03 PM)
Essendon Insider, are you just giving us spin??? Your post was (posted 21/10/2009 9:54:08 AM) it is now 22/10/2009 18:10 PM. And still the same mate. Maybe Steve R. is correct about censoring!!! Regadrs Ivar.
- Ivar Biggen (posted 22/10/2009 6:12:03 PM)
I know this is off topic but I would like to know why my Silver membership has gone up $90.00 for season 2010? Also, why hasn't Essendon mentioned that Mark McVeigh got married last weekend. Best Wishes Mark and Leanne. I really hope he gets picked for Captain. He is a born leader, onya Spike.
- Rita Sharrock (posted 22/10/2009 8:31:11 PM)
Agree with ya Rita,Spike would make a great captain,as would Hille & Watson. should be between Hille & Spike but! Also with Membership the price is a bit high! good to have the 12month payment plan,I`ve got mates that don`t worry bout buying memberships as they live interstate & go to one game a year $110 hardly seems worth it maybe the club should look at a basic membership package?
- mawby Ian (posted 23/10/2009 10:42:43 AM)
Rita I would be ringing the club if I were you about your membership. They will be able to tell you if it went up and if it did why and if you get extra.Surely $90 is a bit steep. As for not putting in about mcveigh's upcoming wedding they usually put on website next year I think of all engagements weddings and births, but think we all knew when he was getting married and yes BEST WISHES Mark & Leanne.Diane
- kiara McDermott (posted 23/10/2009 10:43:37 AM)
Thanks Ian and Kiara for your responses. My friend is on a concession membership and that has gone up by %$80.00 for next year, she has rung Essendon twice and they said they would ring her back and didn't. We are in the country so it is std for us, plus it is just common courtesy to return phonecalls. She has now sent a letter by registered post. No extras in the membership for the extra money. Perhaps Essendon Insider can provide the answers. Ian I agree that the captaincy should be between Spike and Hilly. David did a great job when he was acting captain a couple of years ago.
- Rita Sharrock (posted 25/10/2009 1:01:24 PM)
Rita,I always email the club.It might take a day or two but I always get a reply.Hope this helps.Diane
- Diane Trask (posted 26/10/2009 10:11:22 AM)
thats just typical of them rita i have a friend that lives in tasmania and he cant get a membership because they wont cater a membership for tasmanians only every other state they told him we dont play there so too bad get a victorian one he spat it and said he is going to go for the new gold coast side now we lost over 1500 members last year how many will it be this year i for one a not going again.
- Brett Martin (posted 27/10/2009 10:56:59 AM)
Bye Brett, hope you're still going to barrack for the Bombers...
- Noel Shields (posted 27/10/2009 2:16:07 PM)
Why won't Essendon give Welshy and McPhee a 3 year contract? (Herald Sun Tues 27 Oct). We were prepared to give a 3 year contract to Mark Williams. We do need some senior players to support the kids in our club. Look out all players from the Sheedy era. Meglamania has set in at Essendon - talk about control freak.
