Albert Thurgood burst onto the scene as Essendon won the 1892 premiership.

Teenager Albert Thurgood made his debut in 1892 and became the game’s superstar.

Thurgood set a new goalkicking record of 56 goals - the first player to reach 50 goals in a season - and was part of the club’s unbeaten run of 56 games which commenced with a win over Footscray on 1 July.

In 19 games Essendon won 15, lost one and drew three.

Other champions include Charles ‘Tracker’ Forbes, Alex ‘Joker’ Hall and Charles ‘Commotion’ Pearson.
