After reaching the finals just once since 1912, Essendon remained on top of the ladder for the entire 18-round season.

The grand final was delayed a week due to rain and was played on 20 October, the latest the grand final has ever been played.

Greg Stockdale’s 68 goals at the end of the finals was a new League record.

George Rawle made his debut in the grand final winning a premiership in his first game.
