Hooker’s career-best season was rewarded with a three-year contract extension, tying him to the Bombers until the end of 2016. And he has shown due faith, by toppling last year’s performance so far this season as he dominates in the air across the backline. He has become a vital cog to Essendon’s success and continues to show exceptional leadership down back.

A persistent hamstring injury set back Hooker's development in 2011after he established himself as the club’s centre half-back in 2009 and 2010. The disciplined and reliable defender had an excellent start to the year before tearing his hamstring in round 13 against North Melbourne. He played only one more game for the year—against Port Adelaide in round 23.
