Essendon’s first round draft selection Elliott Kavanagh made his debut in round 18 against Hawthorn immediately impressing with his level of skill by both hand and foot. The slightly framed midfielder will benefit from a solid pre-season campaign to help him deal with the rigors of AFL football.

A serious hamstring injury cruelled the Western Jets midfielder's season after he had been touted as a top-10 selection after an outstanding bottom-age year in 2010. He slipped down the pecking order after little exposed form, but the Bombers saw enough to select him with their first pick (No. 19 overall) in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft. The AIS-AFL Academy graduate is an exciting, polished player with speed, endurance and quality skills, and could find a place on the wing in 2012.Stats
