Hardingham managed just eight games in his fourth-season as he struggled to hold down a place in the backline. The high-jumping and attacking defender had to earn his appearances but was back in favour by the end of the season, playing the final five games. Remains a popular teammate at Essendon, where he was voted best team player. He signed a one-year contract extension through late last year as he builds to a big 2014.

Hardingham shifted from attack to defence and proved to be a revelation, establishing his position in the Bombers' team. Medium-sized, he has good pace, a huge leap and is versatile. Missed only one game for the year (through suspension) and ranked second in the club’s total marks and ninth in kicks. Signed a two-year deal in October, tying him to Essendon until the end of 2013.
