Injury again made for a difficult season for Pears in 2014 and he couldn't crack into the senior team at any stage. Recast as a tall forward at stages through the VFL season, he missed almost two months with a calf injury in the middle of the season and then had surgery on his heel towards the end to remove a spur which had restricted him. Despite this, Pears will work towards getting himself fighting fit for the 2015 season.

Season By Season

Pears shook off three years of injury issues to have a building year in 2013, setting himself for a bigger campaign next season, Pears was an intermittent member of Essendon's senio side but in between was a regular standout at VFL level. In his appearances for the Bombers, he played across half-back and used his run and link-up to help set up the play. Pears agreed to a two-year contract at the end of the season.
