THE SEARCH IS ON FOR GREATEST FANS

Essendon fans are what makes our club so great

Since Essendon started in 1872 it has been the supporters who have made heroes of those that pull on the red and black guernsey each week. It is a fact that should never be forgotten - the fans make this game and this club what it is today.

The Essendon Football Club invites people to nominate themselves or other Bomber supporters to be the inductee into the SHOF this season. A judging panel consisting of Bomber coach Kevin Sheedy, chairman Neil McKissock and General Manager of Marketing, Mark Anderson will decide on the inductee. The inductee will be judged on their dedication and support of the club.

To nominate someone, simply send in a photo and in 100 words or less explain what makes these fans SHOF material. Why are they such great supporters of the Essendon Football Club?

Nominations for 2006 have already opened and will be based on the following criteria. The inductee will:

  • be a long-term club member.
  • demonstrate outstanding passion and dedication for the club either as a volunteer or cheer squad member. They will also be considered on their attendance at Club events, travelling to watch games (into or out of Melbourne) and the purchase or collection of club memorabilia or merchandise.
  • have been a regular attendee at Essendon games over a long period of time.
  • actively promote the Essendon Football Club.
  • be over 18 years of age and shows longevity as supporter.
Nominations need to be submitted by Friday, October 27th 2006 at 5pm, to Gregor McCaskie, c/- Essendon Football Club, PO Box 17, Essendon, VIC 3040.

2005 SUPPORTER HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE

Paul Kinnear

Paul Kinnear has been an Essendon member since 1949. His grandfather Edward Kinnear was the club's first 100 game player and also played in both the 1897 and 1901 premierships. After moving to Sydney to live in 1977, Paul maintained his passion for the Bombers, keeping up his membership and returning to Melbourne various times during the season to catch the boys in action. Paul was at the 1949, 1950, 1951, 1962, 1965 and 1968 Grand Finals.
Well done Paul!

Elaine Newbould

Elaine Newbould's passion for the Essendon Football club runs so deep that she is the 2004 inductee to Essendon Football Club Supporter Hall of Fame (SHOF). The SHOF is now in its second year and was designed to acknowledge the contribution supporters make to the club. Elaine has been an Essendon member for the past 15 seasons and was nominated by her children Kim, Guy and Lance. "I am so excited, it's amazing. It is really beautiful to be acknowledged and makes it all worthwhile. Being a member of Essendon is like being a part of a lovely big family."

Tricia Styles

Tricia has been a member of the Essendon Football Club since 1951 and has supported the Bombers since she was a child. Tricia now resides in Torquay, but when she was a resident in Melbourne, she attended every training night and never missed a match. Tricia travels on public transport to watch Essendon play every week and often doesn't get home until the early hours of the morning. Tricia is on a pension and she has to make personal sacrifices each year to buy her membership.

Tricia is an avid listener of Bomber Radio and often calls in offering her support to the team. Our great game is all about passion, loyalty, sacrifice in support for your team and Tricia has all these qualities in abundance for her beloved Bombers, making her an ideal inductee in the Supporter Hall of Fame.

Fred Carter

Fred began watching Essendon play when he was five years old and is still now supporting them at 65-years of age. His father was a member of Essendon from 1910 until he died in 1964 and Fred has since donated these membership tickets to the Essendon Hall of Fame.

Fred bought his first membership in 1947 when he was eight years old. Fred saw every game that John Coleman played and he supplied Norm McDonald's 1951 Grand Final jumper for his recent funeral service. The guernsey is now on display in the Hall of Fame.

Fred is a passionate and proud Essendon supporter and attends the football every week.
