Yet again, Essendon fans were unable to see their prized young key forward in action last year, with Gumbleton undergoing an operation to repair a bulging disk in his back in April before he could manage a game. Could have returned through the VFL late in the season, but the club is being cautious with the No. 2 draft pick, who is surely due for better luck this season.

Scott Gumbleton is a promising, hard running, key position player who takes a strong mark. He is tall, strong and reads the play well.

He had already played senior football with WA club Peel Thunder before arriving at Windy Hill, but has struggled with hamstring injuries since being recruited to Essendon and has played only five games, all in 2007.
