2010 PreviewDespite a back operation at the end of 2008 casting severe doubts on his 2009 season, the speedster enjoyed his best year for the Bombers, playing 19 games rotating through the midfield and up forward. A smart player who makes good decisions and breaks lines, Winderlich looms as a key to the club’s chances this season.Career ProfileJason Winderlich is a tall midfielder from Gippsland Power who is courageous, reads the play well and has exceptional pace and foot skills. He represented Victoria Country in the 2002 National AFL Under-18 Championships and finished runner-up in Gippsland's best and fairest. He was drafted by Essendon in the 2002 National Draft as a first round selection at pick number 11. He debuted in Round 7, 2003, against Richmond and played three games for the year, scoring a memorable goal against Port Adelaide. After three seasons at AFL level, the young utility player had yet to establish himself as a regular in the Essendon line-up. His pace and excellent disposal were great assets and the signs were good for him in 2006, but a broken leg put him on the sidelines. Winderlich had an excellent year in 2007, playing 17 games and winning the Club's most improved player award. His electrifying pace and willingness to take on the opposition being highlights of his game. He had previously been dogged by soft-tissue injuries and a back injury which curtailed his 2008 pre-season flared again after nine games in 2008, ending his season. Winderlich underwent successful surgery to repair his on-going disc problem and was rewarded with his best-ever season in 2009. His persistence and determination to overcome these issues were rewarded with the 2009 Striving For Excellence award.
