When Patrick Ryder was recruited with selection 7 in 2005, Kevin Sheedy likened him to football legend Polly Farmer. Ryder has lived up to early expectation and, importantly, continues to show major improvement with each passing year. Now entering his fourth season, Ryder has consolidated a spot at centre half-back where he beat some bigger name opponents in 2008. However, given his versatility, Ryder is just as comfortable in the ruck or presenting as a tall option in attack. At 20-years-old he is on the verge of becoming the new Essendon star. Could be anything this year.
