2010 PreviewComing off a knee reconstruction in 2008, the speedy forward did well to earn selection in round one last year, playing 20 games for the season and applying a typically high level of defensive pressure in the front half, laying 87 tackles. With his confidence returning and a full pre-season under his belt, Davey’s ball skills should be much cleaner in 2010.Career ProfileAlwyn Davey joined Essendon at selection no. 36 in the 2006 AFL National Draft at the age of 22. He'd had a terrific 2006 season in the SANFL kicking 39 goals for South Adelaide and finishing equal fifth in the Club's Best and Fairest . He is a left-footer, is lightning quick and has exceptional skills and a great goal sense.Davey had a hugh impact in his debut season with Essendon in 2007 igniting both his team-mates and spectators with his energy and exciting play. He was outstanding in the first 14 games but unfortunately fractured the bone in his upper arm in the Round 14 loss to Geelong. His best game for the year was against Collingwood on Anzac Day, when he kicked three goals, gathered 12 disposals and excited the crowd with his speed. He was the winner of the inaugural AFL Army Award Medal at the 2007 All-Australian awards in recognition of "a match day act which demonstrated courage, initiative and teamwork" after his efforts against Hawthorn featuring a brilliant diving smother followed by a second and third effort. Davey injured his knee during a Saturday morning training drill in 2008, only five games into the season. The knee required a reconstruction and he missed the remainder of the season. His brother, Aaron, plays for Melbourne. Draft History: 2006 AFL National Draft 3rd round selection (Essendon) No. 36 overall View Alwyn's profile in our Past Player database
