Under Matthew Knights’ fast-running game plan, Bachar Houli impressed early in season 2008 winning a Rising Star nomination in Round 1. Unfortunately, a groin injury sustained mid-season ruled him out for the remainder of the year. He has recovered and will start his third season with a strong fitness base and should make an influential return to the midfield and defensive unit in 2009. Considered a workhorse by the coaches, Houli is at his most dangerous when given the freedom to run and deliver. He is effective by both foot and hand, rarely wasting a possession.
