2010 Preview

With a trio of top-three best and fairest placings in six completed seasons, the on-baller has achieved a high level of consistency and knows how to find the football. Finished first at the club for kicks (329), marks (138), handball receives (280) and inside 50s (95) in 2009 and, if he can refine his finishing skills, will place himself among the game’s elite. Promoted to the leadership group.

Career Profile

Brent Stanton was selected the 2003 National draft as a first round selection (number 13 overall). He made his debut for Essendon in Round 1, 2004, playing a total of 15 senior games and was nominated for the NAB Rising Star award that year. He played mainly on the wing and in the midfield, and kicked six goals in his debut season.

In 2005 Stanton played 19 eye-catching games and displayed a style of hard-running from the midfield. He underlined his burgeoning talent with a 25-disposal, 10-mark, and two-goal display against Collingwood in Round 16.
He finished third in the 2005 Crichton Medal and won the Club's most improved player that year.

He was chosen to play in the International Rules series in 2006, and in 2007 had a superb year which was
rewarded when he was given the number 5 jumper, previously worn by former captain and champion James Hird.

By 2008, Stanton had become an integral part of Essendon's midfield. His ability to run and carry the ball had made him one of Essendon's most important players.

He played his 100th game in the round 2 win over Fremantle, and was one of only three players to play all 23 games in 2009.

Stanton's outstanding consistency saw him finish third in the Crichton Medal for the third time in just six seasons. He led the club statistics for 2009 in kicks, marks, handball receives and inside 50s.

He had another consistent year in 2010, playing 20 games and again being amongst the club's highest possession winners.
