2010 Preview

The previously injury prone Queenslander enjoyed the best of his four seasons at the Bombers last year, missing just three games and holding his own in defence while also providing plenty of drive. Showed courage in the air, gathered 51 loose-ball gets and rebounded from 50 on 46 occasions. Needs only to improve fitness to be able to spend more time in the midfield.

Career Profile

Courtenay Dempsey came from Cairns where he represented Queensland at U18 level in 2005.

He is a gifted player with blistering pace and good skills, who knows how to win the ball. He is a midfielder with great goal sense. Despite his light frame, he was thrown into the action and played five games in 2006.

Dempsey played just one game for Essendon in 2007 because of a severe hamstring injury, but his ability indicates he should have a long-term future at the Club.

He played four games in 2008 before again succumbing to a hamstring injury.

An injury-free Dempsey played the best football of his career in 2009, playing 20 games and providing plenty of dash off the half-back line.

Draft History: 2005 National AFL Draft 1st round selection (Essendon) No. 19 overall.
