Essendon midfielder Brent Stanton will undergo scans to determine the full extent of an ankle injury that saw him leave the field before half time of Sunday’s win over Port Adelaide.

Stanton returned to the field in the second half ensuring the Bombers were not short of interchange rotations to play an important role with 23 disposals.

Football Operations Manager Steve Alessio said Stanton would be assessed in the coming days.

“Stants coped a knock to the ankle and we weren’t one hundred per cent sure about the type of injury during the game so we will see how he pulls up,” Alessio said.

“He will have scans today and we will make an assessment of where he is at with his ankle.”

“Fingers crossed it is just a knock which will settle during the week and he will be able to get some training in.”

“Worst case scenario it is worse than that and he will potentially miss but we won’t know that until after the scans.”

Forward Stewart Crameri is expected to push his claims for a return after missing the match against the Power with an ankle injury.

Crameri has begun training with the main group again and is expected to be in line to tackle the Western Bulldogs on Sunday.

“Stew’s ankle has been coming along really well and he is really confident,” Alessio said.

“I spoke to him at the game on Sunday and he was really confident about getting up this week so he will step up his training, look to train fully and be part of the team against the Bulldogs.”

Heath Hocking is expected to miss at least another week as he continues to progress through a rehabilitation program from a calf strain.

“Heath is stepping up his training and has entered back into main training,” Alessio said.

“If his training goes along as expected hopefully in a week or two we will have Heath Hocking back in the midfield and it will be sorely needed with Jobe Watson being out.”
