Redman Back In

BTV: Mason Redman interview - July 27, 2016 We caught up with Mason to discuss the news.

Essendon Football Club is pleased to announce Mason Redman  has agreed to a new two-year deal that will see him ‘don the sash’ until the end of 2019.

Redman was recruited from Glenelg in South Australia and picked up by the Bombers with the 30th overall pick in the 2015 National Draft.

“I am really honoured to have made my debut with Essendon earlier this year and to be able to continue my career until 2019,” Redman said.

“I’m looking forward to continuing to learn from the leaders around the Club and developing my game so I can help the Club become great again.

“I feel we have a really strong group of young players coming through, we have a number of quality players returning and I am really excited about what we can achieve together over the next few years.”

Redman made his debut in Round 7 against Sydney Swans at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The 18 year-old has played three AFL games this season as well as making a strong impact in the Club’s VFL team.

Senior Coach, John Worsfold, said Redman had demonstrated great maturity and commitment to the Club in his debut season.

“We’re really pleased that Mason has bought into our future and wants to be part of an exciting period at the Club,” Worsfold said.

“We are building a really strong team culture which demands elite standards. Mason has displayed great discipline and determination to live up to those elite standards and he’s starting to see the rewards of his hard work.

“This year has provided opportunities to fast-track the development and experience of our younger players, and we’ve seen Mason thrive in this environment. I’ve got no doubt Mason has a bright future ahead of him at the Essendon Football Club.”

Redman made the move from Millicent – a South Australian fishing town approximately four hours east of Adelaide, to further his football career in the SANFL.

Essendon List and Recruiting Manager Adrian Dodoro said Redman is one of a number of exciting young prospects at the Club.

“Mason is highly regarded at Essendon, having embraced the Club since day one and setting a great example for his team mates by always demonstrating our values and an insatiable work ethic,” Dodoro said.

“Mason provides the team with a terrific burst of speed, he’s a strong overhead mark and he can play both ends of the ground which gives us great flexibility.”
