Essendon midfielder David Myers says the raw emotion in the lead-up to an Anzac Day game is something that will stick with him forever.

With just one sleep until the 25th Anzac Day game against Collingwood at the MCG, Myers spoke of the honour of being on the big stage on such a significant day to all Australians.

“It is certainly not lost on us how big of an occasion it is and how lucky we are to be involved in the Anzac Day match,” Myers told 3AW Sportsday.

“Standing there before the game with a stadium of 100,000 people, you can hear a pin drop.

“It’s an incredible feeling being out on the field and your mind certainly does wander to the servicemen and women of the past and the present day, that are still out there doing the job for us.

“It is a special moment to be a part of and I’m sure that for every player who has experienced it, it is something they will never forget.”

Essendon will face Collingwood on Thursday before preparing for the Powercor Country Game against Geelong and Dreamtime at the ‘G clash with Richmond.

Myers acknowledged AFL legend Kevin Sheedy as the architect behind a number of the club’s blockbuster matches.

“Sheeds is a genius. He has been the mastermind behind many of these blockbusters with Anzac Day, Country Festival and Dreamtime,” Myers said.

“We are certainly very privileged at Essendon to be a part of these big games.”

The Bombers will head into the round six clash with the Pies on the back of three consecutive wins, setting up one of the most highly anticipated Anzac Day games in recent years.
