Young gun Darcy Parish has recommited to the Bombers for a further two years, seeing him remain in the red and black until at least the end of 2021.

Spending more time in the midfield in 2019, the 22-year-old has averaged an equal career-high 21 disposals, a career-high four inside 50s, four tackles and 3.5 clearances per game, and has booted a career-high 11 goals so far this season.

Hailing from Winchelsea in rural Victoria, Parish was drafted with pick No.5 in the 2015 NAB AFL National Draft and made his debut in round one the following year.

The midfielder said he was excited to continue his career with the Bombers.

“To be honest, there was never a consideration to sign elsewhere, I love this club and want to repay the faith they’ve shown,” Parish said.

“I have got great relationships with everyone at the club. I’ve really enjoyed my time here and I’ve learnt so much from the relationships I’ve been able to build.

“There’s an exciting feeling amongst the group at the moment, so I’m pumped to be remaining in the red and black for at least a couple more years.”

Senior coach John Worsfold said Parish was committed to the club’s build towards success.

“It’s a credit to Darcy who worked his way back into the senior side earlier this year, and as a result, has since been contributing strongly to our team this season,” Worsfold said.

“Darcy has a terrific work ethic and has been developing into a well-rounded midfielder who can push forward. We know he is going to be a key part of our future as we continue to strive towards team success.”

Club GM of list and recruiting Adrian Dodoro said it was important to put pen to paper on a contract extension for Parish.

“We’re delighted Darcy has signed on with the club, not only is he a wonderful young man, but he has been developing into the promising midfielder we knew he would become,” Dodoro said.

“Darcy arrived at our club back in 2015 as one of the more highly credentialed junior players. We believe his best football is still ahead of him, which is an exciting prospect for our club and supporters.

“We have a great mix of youth and experience in our playing group and we’re pleased Darcy will remain an important part of that.”
