Essendon's wheelchair side will play in the 2020 Round Robin Carnival semi-finals this weekend.

Essendon’s high-flying VWFL side has a shot at securing a Grand Final berth against bitter rival Collingwood at Boroondara Sports Complex on Sunday.

The Bombers sit just one win adrift of the ladder-leading Richmond with a game in hand and percentage on their side, so a victory over the Magpies this week could secure a minor premiership and a spot in the Grand Final.

A brilliant comeback win against Hawthorn on the weekend helped the Dons to second on the ladder, with the side displaying plenty of heart and class to chase down the Hawks despite falling to a three-goal quarter-time deficit with a goalless opening term.

The return of important players Sam Maraldo (four goals), Anthony Perito (three) and James Leonard proved helpful and Essendon eventually extended away to claim a 26-point victory in impressive style.

Star Bomber Caleb Logan was thrilled to get the win and said he was particularly impressed by the efforts of Don Angelo Mavroudis.

“We were down 20 after the first quarter, but we kept our heads in it and backed ourselves,” Logan said.

“I was impressed with Angelo’s game today, he was leading well, stuck some grabs and slotted a few as well.

“We had Anthony, Sam and James back which really helped.”
