Essendon senior assistant coach, Simon Goodwin, has admitted the Bombers may have an advantage over Port Adelaide in the tall stocks for this Saturday night’s clash at the Adelaide Oval.

The Power is without key defenders Alipate Carlile and Jackson Trengove for the match with the Bombers to try and stretch their defence.

“We have got some key marking talls,” Goodwin said last night.

“It’s certainly an area we feel like we’ve got a little advantage.”

“Joe Daniher and Jake Carlisle are playing some pretty reasonable footy down forward at the moment so we’ve definitely got some options down in that half to really get some quality entries going inside 50.”

The Bomber forward line has copped criticism due to its inconsistency this season but Goodwin has called for patience.

“It’s challenging, Joe Daniher has a lot of expectation put on him and he’s only a second year player,” Goodwin said.

“I think you see with any key position players within the competition they take their time to develop.”

“We’re probably putting a lot on Joey as a second year player but he’s getting there.”

“Jake (Carlisle) is very similar- he’s having his first year as a forward and he’s just finding his way.”

“I thought on the weekend against Geelong he had the chance to kick five goals so he’s heading in the right direction.”

Essendon could add even more tall timber to the line up after last weeks narrow loss to Geelong with Tom Bellchambers and Tayte Pears training well.

“Tommy Bellchambers trained well and is available for selection,” Goodwin said.

“(Pears) is certainly training really well and he’s probably not too far away.”

Goodwin even flagged a position change for the key defender after missing a lot of footy early this season.

“He’s had a little injury interrupted season, but he’s gone back to the VFL in the last three weeks and played as a forward and has looked really dangerous as a forward.”

Spearhead Jason Winderlich is expected to slot back in the team after serving his one-week suspension.

“Jason will be available and he’ll be back,” Goodwin said.

“He’s a quality player for us and gives us great options certainty forward and through the midfield and defence, so he will defiantly be back in the side.”
