Livewire Travis Colyer has had a sensational return to the team over the last month playing a key role in the Bombers turn around in form.

Colyer leads all-comers in score involvements according to Champion Data with his influence vital to Essendon’s two big wins over Adelaide and Port Adelaide in the last three weeks.

In just three matches over the last month Colyer averages a whopping 7.3 score involvements per game equating to over 30% of the entire side’s scores.

While the small speedster’s run and carry has been highlighted by his average of 431 meters gained, from just 17.7 disposals per match.

Conversely, star midfielder Dyson Heppell averages 27 less meters gained from almost nine more possessions per match- exemplifying Colyer’s ability to run, bounce and take the game on.

The small midfield-forward has increasingly become an invaluable member of the Bomber team since being recalled for the round 14 clash against Adelaide, not missing a game since.

“I started off and had a few niggles here and there and it sort of put me back a little bit in terms of senior selection,” Colyer speaking of his season to date.

“I’ve just worked really hard over the last eight weeks, six of them in the VFL.“

The 22-year-old admitted after several years in and out of the team he realised he needed to revolutionise the way he played.

“Working with Nathan Bassett and Simon Goodwin and talking with Bomber about how I’m going and we’ve just had some really good conversations about where I’m at.”

“I’ve been in the system for five years now so I really wanted to know what I had to be doing to be selected in the senior team.”

“It’s just a little bit of hard work and getting myself in the right mental frame to be playing each week and that’s all I really take it down too.”

“Not getting to consumed by the game, not worrying about one little mistake here and there and just having a crack and playing footy”

If Colyer is to continue his run and carry and the valuable possession rate involving scores for the Bombers, he will begin to cause headaches for opposition sides and become yet another potential target for opposition teams through the Essendon midfield.
